Thanks for the idea. I already made Portsmouth(England)-Bielsko(Poland) trip and spent 200 Euros for the fuel and ferry so was'nt sure how to get back. Now I know, I have arranged an appoitment in nearby clinic. They are quite eager to have a look inside my guts.

In South Florida (USA) the gallon of regular gasoline (87 octane) is up from last week and now costs $2.70 USD or €2.20 EUR, that is, $0.71 USD or €0.58 EUR per liter.

Right now, the Obama administration is trying to again sneak in its European-style failed cap-and-tax carbon proposal through the back door, using the BP oil spill to confuse things. Hopefully, Congress will again be smart enough not to fall for it.

87 octane is similar to the ancient 92 octane in Europe right? The American premium is comparable to the European regular (euro 95).

From the Repsol gas station near home (in Huesca, obviously):
Diesel: €1.086/l ($5.022/gal)
Diesel 10: €1.146/l ($5.299/gal)
Unleaded 95: €1.157/l ($5.349/gal)
Unleaded 98: €1.270/l ($5.873/gal)

But tomorrow VAT is raising from 16% to 18% so unleaded 95 will increase its price in €0.02/l. But the prices will remain as nothing compared to that photo in Greek highways thread, which shows V-Power Racing at €1.799/l ($8.319/gal)!

Here in the UK, the big supermarkets like Tesco and sainsburys often run promotions giving discounted fuel at their petrol stations. 5p / 7.5c per litre if you spend £50 / $75 in the store is common, its not huge but that would cut the cost of a tank by £2.50 / $3.75

Without any discount the cheapest regular petrol here is £1.149 / litre at the moment.

I did not know that gasoline in the United Kingdom is expensive! Correct me if I am wrong, but I imagine gasoline in continental Europe is more expensive as well than here in the USA.

3.8 liters = 1 USA gallon.
3.8 liters x £1.149 = £4.37
£4.37 at the exchange rate of 1.511031 as of 30 June 2010: US$6.60 a gallon!

Does this include taxes like the USA or are taxes additional in the UK? I did not know that supermarket chains in the UK like what you mentioned offer discounts for gas when you spend a certain amount or more, much like a gas station that discounts gas when you buy a car wash in the USA as I mentioned previously.

After all, everything helps to try to save money wherever we can!

Even in Canada, every time I've been there, gas has run maybe 70 to 80 percent higher than in the U.S. I suspect our prices are artificially low, or that our taxes are out of whack with other Western countries. But I'm not complaining.

The Sunoco station two blocks from me now offers a frequent-customer card where you can earn discounts on your next fillup by buying in their convenience store. (Not just the Sunoco station near me, of course. It's a Sunoco/APlus card. Although the one time I tried to use it out of state, in Delaware, it didn't work. So I don't know whether it's national....) Last time I filled up there, I was discounted 18 cents a gallon. Which isn't bad.

Starting tomorrow (today for our European forumers) gas in Ontario will become more expensive (along with many other things) due to the Harmonized Sales Tax.

I filled half a tank of my car tonight at 0.96 CAD / L.

Your gas prices are not subsidized, if that's what you mean. In Europe, taxes amount to 70% of the fuel price.

If you want cheap fuel, you gotta go to Venezuela, $ 0.10 per gallon...

Current Wisconsin Average: $2.74 USD
Current Madison Average: $2.71 USD
Not that bad considering we have one of the highest gas taxes in the union.

yes, its expensive! That includes tax which makes up most of the price.

There is VAT of 17.5% which would take the price down to £0.978 if you take it off the current price. Then there is fixed petrol duty of £0.5719 per litre.

Take that off too and you see what the price would be without tax, £0.406 per litre, which is $2.30 per US gallon.

Same in the Netherlands...

€ 1.58 per liter - 19% VAT = € 1.28, then there is a fixed excise duty of € 0.72. That leaves us € 0.56 market price or $ 2.59 per gallon. That is why oil can be up to $ 250 a barrel and it'd still be affordable, if it wasn't for all the excessive taxes.
