In France on holidays I paid for a liter diesel between €1,11 (supermarket) and €1,30 (Autoroute A1). Today I paid € 1,10 in my hometown.

On the way to my parents' in New Jersey today, I passed a series of four or five stations (on US 22 in the Green Brook/North Plainfield area, if anyone's in the neighborhood and wants to fill up cheap) charging $2.339 per gallon for the lowest grade. A few miles farther, the price went up about 10 cents. The Sunoco station in my neighborhood in Philadelphia's at $2.679.

Someone else can do the dollar-to-euro (or pound, or Canadian dollar, or whatever...) and gallon-to-liter conversions. It's late here. :-P

How happened that? I didn't know that €1.19 it's less than €1.06 . (Perhaps because I change units with Google and it shows real time variations, while Joshsam uses the currency of some time ago...)
Yep, you can change units with Google, you simply put xx EUR/l to USD/gal and then press "Search Google". You will get the result. And the "gal" thing is US gallon.

Switzerland:

Diesel € 1,27
Petrol € 1,24

As I've seen today. Diesel is more expensive here than in the Netherlands. I refueled in Luxembourg for € 0,98 (diesel)

Filled up in Cincinnati, OH yesterday for $2.65/gal (Unleaded 87).

That's €0.55/liter, 2 times cheaper than in most countries in Europe. That's crazy. Don't people in Europe think that's a little steep?

Don't know I just checked this page http://www.energy.eu/ where you can find prices for every energy source per EU country, and then I used google coverter. A liter is a liter and a gallon stays a gallon...

And we topped out at €1.28/l for petrol and €1.33/l for diesel in July 2008. That was just over $8/gal for diesel.

Does anyone know why in some countries diesel is more expensive than petrol while in others (like in Italy) it's the other way around?

In the UK Diesel is more expensive than petrol, but only 3 eurocents per liter. But I don't know why, it's the only EU country that has prices switched...

BTW, the gas prices I say here are below the Spanish mean, which is ~4 eurocents higher.

It doesn't seem that way, since ChrisZwolle said that also in Switzerland diesel is more expensive than petrol... ok Switzerland is not UE but you yourself said:

By "we" you meant "Spain"?

We got close enough to that level with diesel back in summer 2008 when diesel was just above $5/gal.

It's just above the $3 mark at the moment.
