Diesel is taxed less high in the Netherlands because our economy relies on it. We have a few mainports and are one of the most important distributors in western Europe. Our gasoline is usually taxed on of the highest in Europe. Unlike (perhaps) most other countries, our fuel prices don't change like once a week, but usually every day. Big drops like € 0,10 a liter like they have in Belgium do not occur in the Netherlands.

Prices here are falling nicely. About $3.56/gal (€0.688/l) now.
![]() Still about 40 cents higher than the national average though.

The lowest price I can find in the U.S. today is $2.41 (cash only, $25 purchase required) in Lockwood, Missouri.
The highest price I can find in the U.S. today is $4.79 in Bridgeport, California. The national U.S. average today is $3.10, down 73 cents a gallon from just one month ago. |

During my holiday I read some stories about isolated villages in western Alaska where the price had skyrocketed to $8,50 a gallon (which was still cheaper than in the Netherlands at that time)

Well, Bethel isn't really in the northern part of Alaska, I'd see it as western Alaska

The Irish government have added another 8c tax to petrol, government finances having run into some difficulties, so petrol in Ireland may no longer be below the European average.

Shell Express in Maarsbergen (NL) has Diesel for € 1,07 and Euro 95 for € 1,29 that's usually the cheapest station in the Netherlands.

just a quick question to the posters...
Are you stating your prices in Liters (metric)/British Gallons, or adjusting to US Gallons for the sake of a common comparison value? The US prices are in Gallons which is approximately 4 liters. |
