Well, in Celsius...0 is freezing and 100 is boiling...while in Fahrenheit, it's 32 and 212 respectively.
If you're informed that it's 60 degrees in Hartford and 61 in Springfield, both of those translate to 16. That's the degree of imprecision I was talking about. (If you limit yourself to whole numbers, there are more...choices (18 as opposed to 10)...between freezing and 50F/10C in Fahrenheit than there are in Celsius.) Granted, that's not a big deal. But the post that started this said sticking to Fahrenheit was "shameful," which I think is a bit over the top - treats it as if it is a big deal.. This really is off topic, though....

Back on topic, the neighborhood Sunoco station keeps jumping by four- or six--cent increments - $3.939 three hours ago, who knows now? And why do so many gas stations operate in odd numbers (3.919, 3.939, 3.959, 3.979.... that pattern. Never a 3.929 or 3.949)

Hmmm. I haven't actually been making records, but we're up a good 15 cents a gallon here since last weekend, if memory serves.

I haven't noticed a trend here. One day, it goes up five cents, the other none, and the day after that, it goes up another 4 cents.

Personally, I'm not entirely convinced that will happen anytime soon. Commodity speculation based on events in the middle east. It's the market speculators making the price situation more volatile. There needs to be an immediate ban on speculation involving commodities, especially when it leads to price hikes like the ones of late. The Federal Government banned naked short selling back during the financial crisis. Maybe they could do the same in this area...

Do you really think you can feel the difference between 60 and 61? It doesn't really matter. It's still the same temperature

The gas prices here are the same as last week - around 3.89

By province (average) as of 4/24/2011 4:30:30 AM local time:

Alberta $116.496
Manitoba $124.525
PEI $126.000
Saskatchewan $126.221
New Brunswick $131.232
British Columbia $132.444
Ontario $132.748
Quebec $134.621
Nova Scotia $136.457
Newfoundland $139.900

http://www.torontogasprices.com/Prices_Nationally.aspx

Newfoundland is a major oil producing province, so I'm not sure why it has the highest price.

I just wasted my time (and gas! ) driving all the way to the airport just to find out I was right, even that one has not gone up (or down) one penny on any grade or diesel since the last picture I took two weeks ago.

Diesel is still right there teetering on 5 dollars a gallon. Still $4.99 9/10

Budapest, Hungary. Checked today, for Super 95 the best price was 375,9, the highest one 385,9. These are € 1.42 / € 1.46 or $ 7.84 / $ 8.04 respectively (dollar prices calculated for gallon, of course).

Cheapest 95 here is now £1.329/l EUR1.50/l $8.30/gal. Diesel a couple of pence more.

Penns wood, people over about 50 occasionally still talk about price per gallon here, I think official prices changed to metric 20 years ago.

I think it was James May, in a rerun a few years back, talking about "petrol at five pounds a gallon," in an intro to a piece about being green or economical which - characteristally for Top Gear - morphed into a bit about a Lamborghini or Bugatti.... I suppose it would be imperial gallons, though.

If you are talking about US or Canada, the system here is different (surprise )

So 87 = 92 in Europe. 92 = 97

If you are in South America I have no idea how it is there

If you think that fuel prices are high, take a look at this article (original article is in Romanian):

Quote:
Stupor in a German town: 9.99 euro for a liter of gasoline!

A fuel station in the German town of Filderstadt yesterday posted an incredible price for premium gasoline: 9.99 euro per liter. Many customers careless paid 7 times more on gasoline.
