Most oil in Europe is produced around the Caspian Sea and the North Sea. Especially Norway and the UK are major producers. And of course our neighbor Russia is the world first energy producer, though it appears to me most Russian fossil fuel energy is produced in Asian Russia.

European taxation is so high that toll roads should not have been necessary. European motorists frequently bring in 3 or 4 times more money than is spent on roads. This is different in the U.S. where the gas tax is so low it hardly pays for maintenance alone.

Also governments try to fund a lot of social, environmental and other budget items by fuel taxation (excise)... As using cars has become widespread and almost all members of society use fuel for everyday transportation.

Price of gas without taxes in EU27 (in €-cents). I don't know if it's December 2011 / January 2012 or they are both in 2011.

Our tax-less fuel price is about what Americans pay including taxes - $ 3.20 per gallon or € 0.65 per liter.

Ours would be $2.75 a gallon with zero taxes.

Etanol - R$ 1,95/L = US$ 1,06 = 0,81 euros

Gasoline - R$ 2,65/L = US$ 1,44 = 1,10 euros

For those who come to France with an LPG car, this will be very useful :"Stations GPL" site

On this site, you'll also find links (liens) to other European services (like German "Gas Tankstellen" one (which is also quite reliable), as well as some Portuguese, Spanish & Belgian services. Not sure whether they're reliable. I prefer letting our Spanish, Portuguese, Belgian, & other European roadgeeks answer to this question

In Poland, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Lithuania I've also seen quite a lot of LPG stations.

In France, it depends on the area. Just like in Germany. I haven't really seen a lot of them in Hungary, but my journey there was too short in kilometers to tell ...

But there are countries where it's better to know where to fill before you go. Like the UK (I've seen only 2 LPG stations when I went there - one BP not far from Dover and one (also BP) in Hammersmith) or Spain ...

There are many LPG stations in the UK but like you say its best to know where they are as the majority don't sell it.

You can try this site, when I enter my home town it shows 12 within a 30km radius.

Despite the fact that diesel costs in Italy more than 1.6€ (on average 1.64), I found a station near Latina (south of Rome) selling it at 1.46€. Pity my tank was already full...

I don't think the currency conversion is correct. 5.45 PLN is more like € 1.20

Maybe, because conversion in my mobile phone is really hostile and I made it fast. Today Euro costs near 4,55 PLN.

Edit: My fault, I used Dollars in converter

Once again:
-Diesel: 1,20€
-Petrol: 1,18
-LPG: 0,61€

In Poland we use commas.

If you will ever come to Romania I suggest not to fuel up from gas stations where the price is signicantly lower than in other places. There might be a problem with the fuel quality (some years ago they found gas station owners adding water to the petrol).

Bulgaria moved closer to the darker-green group today:
Diesel 2,61 leva = 1,33 euro.
V-Power diesel 2,83 = 1,45 euro.
Petrol 2,41 leva = 1,23 euro.
V-Power 2,56 leva = 1,31 euro.
LPG 1,22 leva = 0,62 euro.

The first time since many weeks Diesel is not more expensive than Super.

Recently read in Austrian news. Italians tend to cross the border to fill up their cars with gas.

Makes sense:

A map for Diesel would be more balanced.
