Singapore:

Relatively cheap fuel, considering car ownership in Singapore is prohibitively expensive. Parking is also quite cheap, even in downtown Singapore.

In the neighborhood (Southeast Asia), it's expensive.

Same thing here in CT. Prices in Massachusetts just about 35 minutes away can be as cheap as 35-40 cents less. But they have tolls, we don't.

Tampa/St. Petersburg Area Gas Prices

As of Monday, 2/27/12 according to my personal observations and at TampaGasPrices.com:

St. Petersburg: $3.69/gallon at a Racetrac station on Gandy Blvd. right before the west end of the Gandy Bridge.

Tampa: $3.65/gallon at a Chevron station on the corner of West Kennedy Blvd. and North Lois Avenue, just a few blocks south of Interstate 275.

On a side note - beware of gas stations that charge you a higher price for using other than cash. Most Shell and Racetrac stations charge you the same price whether you use cash or credit. I don't know why these gas station owners can get away with different pricing based on how you pay; unfortunately, it's completely legal.

I don't get why you have to pay a higher price if you don't pay cash. In most of the world it's the other way around, you get a discount if you pay by credit card or regular debit bank card.

The card companies get fees from the card payments. Thus you can save few percent using the bank transfar payments or cash payments if you dont use Visa or Master etc...

But with high amounts of cash, there's a higher risk of robberies and/or cash needs to be picked up more often.

Yeah always check the price on the pump itself and never the big sign on the corner of the station. I've left quite a few gas stations because they were lying about the price. I get cashback on my credit card so I always use credit to pay for fuel, just makes sense.

I thought the whole cash/credit price difference was a CT thing because it's not really common in neighboring states. I usually use cash...not only for the discounts but I don't like leaving a paper trail. Usually Mobils here don't have a difference in price but they tend to be most expensive, along with Shell.

Oh, and lots of gas stations passed $4 here for regular, and now a few stations have diesel around $4.50...

Like others have said, gas stations have to pay processing fees on each transaction to the processing and credit card companies. As a person running a small business our credit card processing fees run approximately 4-5% of our total sales. If a gallon of gas costs $4.00, then 16-20 cents of that goes to the credit card companies which is why more and more gas stations near where I live have begun to give cash-paying customers a discount of 5-10 cents a gallon.

ARCO stations do not accept credit cards at all but will accept ATM or debit cards for a flat fee (50 cents to $1).

You know things are bad in the US when you see a Geo metro sell in less than 24 hours.

I was considering one as a second car for work, I actually wanted to go look at it and give it a chance because its one of the most fuel efficient cars you can buy in the US. But it sold... If all I needed a car for was going to the mall, I could get an F-3350 considering the mall is 2km away.

**** it's a damn good thing I decided to get a 2004 Nissan Sentra last year for $5000 (91,000 miles). I was driving a gas guzzling 1994 piece of shit Toyota 4-runner before that and even had someone steal fuel out of the tank early 2011.

Fuel is $3.55/gal at my local gas station today. About $37 to fill up. I'm still surprised at the amount of big trucks and SUV's I see on the roads today.
