Kosovo's status is a delicate issue which should not be discussed in Highways & Autobahns in my opinion.

Kosovo is not a delicate issue at all nowadays, it is an independent country and it will remain so...only ignorant individuals that do not want to know what is the real Kosovo story come here and make senseless stands and always anti-Albanian of course, does not matter if we talk about Kosovo or usage of Albanian language on the roads of Macedonia or something else!

In principle I do not favour the idea of spoiling this thread with other things but maybe sometimes we can be just a bit flexible and allow some "additional discussion" since obviously people do not know much about each other in this region! And if the discussions are civilised, although a bit with tensions, I believe it can be tolerated, they are not lasting long anyway, we all have other things to do too!!!

ChrisZwolle, the discussion was related to Kosovo's citizens' access to other countries (that's what some part of the roads are for! ) and we were not insulting each other. I agree with GreenAlbanian that talking about Kosovo should not be a taboo as long as the conversation remains constructive.

GreenAlbanian, I am not an anti-Albanian. I'm just against the way everything was imposed - with arms and victims (I do not say that Serbians are innocent at all!). If you want, we can continue the discussion on private.

Yes, it was legal since UNMIK, under authority from the UN, issued license plates for international travel. The Netherlands were, obviously, one of the countries that recognized those license plates else the car wouldn't be there.

Many countries have some sort of masterplan which shows future motorways (visions mostly). Does Kosovo has such a planned masterplan?

I believe it does, but the Ministry of Transportation, who's in charge of all national and regional roads does not have it on their website. I know for a fact that there are plans for building or upgrading four different highways; three existing and one new highway.

Existing highways to be upgraded to at least 2x2 (though not necessarily a full motorway):

1. Prishtina - Skopje (U.C.)
2. Prishtina - Peja - Montenegrin Border (U.C.)
3. Prishtina - Mitrovica - Serbian border (U.C.)

New motorway:

4. Prishtina - Prizren - Albanian border (Construction to begin in 2009, offers were already made)

The latter will also connect with the border point of Merdare with Serbia, and from there on with Corridor 10.

I assume this one will connect with the U/C Durrės - Kukės motorway in Albania?

Yes, exactly. From there on it will connect with Corridor 8 which goes through Albania as well.

There's a link to information about a motorway Mordina - Prishtina - Merdare on the site of the ministry of transport, but the link is broken.

Yes, I sent them an e-mail about it (and other things, like the master plan) but received no reply whatsoever.

Those license plates are issued by UN institution in kosovo and it is legal.

I don't think someone's background has anything to do with the issue of Kosovo's road infrastructure, so please keep ontopic.

You need to resize it first to a decent width, say max. 1024 px (preferrably smaller if not necessary). Then you need to upload that picture to a host, say www.************ or www.imageshack.us
