Only portions of route 7 around Prishtina are planned as real motorways. The rest are high quality 2-lane road, and a short portion of route 6 as 4-lane road with future motorway possibilities.

That's the proposal from the feasibility study (which was done in 2006, slightly outdated) but the government decided to go ahead and build them both as real motorways. Back in 2006 the finances were not there, we weren't members of either IMF or WorldBank so borrowing capabilities were not there while today the situation is different. The 16km section will start this November while the rest will follow next year (financial plans are still being worked out for the remaining sections).

A short driving video on the Prishtina - Prizren national (M) road. This particular section is Lipjan - Shtimje, both being small towns that serve as suburbs or satellites of Prishtina.

Sorry for the strange colors, it was taken with an iPhone as I don't have a proper video camera right now, and my Nikon D200 sadly doesn't take video.

Anyway: Prishtina - Prizren

This is a short video taken on a road that serves as a "bypass" of sort for Shtimje; it was built to relieve some of the traffic from the town (~5000 inhab.) because the commies had the brilliant idea of building a town around national roads.

That bypass goes through a village because there isn't enough room to completely bypass the little town. It was like that through human history, but the commies could have avoided it as they did it in many other places.

Well there is quite a job ahead. But I'm happy with the tempo of construction in Kosovo. I think building four highways same time is quite a hassle. But once they are finished, Kosovo will have one of best coverage with highways in Europe. It is small contry and almost every big city will be connected with highway to capital.....As Government promised all to be over in 2012-13. So lets wait and see...

No I think only the Morine Merdare highway will be finished by that time, The other motorway connecting FYROM and Montenegro is yet unknown when it will start.

Both the last ones you mention are under construction. From the Lipjane junction starts a highway. The reason why the road is 4 lanes with 2 additional ones is becouse big number of buisnesses until Lipjane junction. As I saw the news the budged was approved.

The one with Montenegro is under construction. Until Airport will be finished soon and already was approved the continuance another 30-40km. Im not sure...but someone here can have more information's.

The one going to Peje will only be an expressway right? So what happens with the current highway from Prishtine to the FYROM boarder, will that turn into a real motorway too?

PS: Sorry to trouble you Buddy but the highway currently in construction Prishtine Mitrovice, is that turning into a real expressway and is there any possibility that in the future it willl turn into a motorway? Mitrovica seems to be the only major city not to be linked with Prishtina with motorway in 2014.

It will be an expressway up to and including a short section around the airport. Detailed plans for the rest are not available to the public, unfortunately. As for the one to MK, it is an expressway until Lipjan, about ~10km, and the rest is, again, a mystery as far as detailed plans are concerned.

Construction has begun
