In effect, I believe that come maybe 2015-2020 Kosovo will have motorway links with Serbia, Albania and Macedonia. It will also have expressway links to Montenegro and another expressway to Serbia through Mitrovica. All the major cities including some major towns will be fully linked by motorways and expressways to Prishtina. Its not bad going for a newly found republic.

ChrisZwolle, Earlier on I made a special request for a name change of this thread... I am not sure if you saw my request but I proposed this:

[RKS] Kosovo Roads and Motorways/Rruge dhe Autostrada
Not to forget that Kosovo become Indipendent with 0km of motorway or expressways, it will be a great sucsses to build the hole country infractucture on motorways and expressway less than 10 years since Indipendence. I think Government is doing a great job...

A video of the regional road R129 Mitrovicė - Podujevė. This road connects two mid-sized towns that are satellite towns of Prishtina. The landscape is beautiful and the road very pleasant to drive on.

rumors are that Kosovo's 'government' does not pay for the highway because of an American political agreement with Bechtel and some banks.

Will pay some day more. because nothing is for free.

Where did you hear these rumors, in Helsinki or in Pitesti!? Perhaps Romanians that work in Kosovo told you that? LOL

You heard those rumors at Area 51, right? Just before the secret Reptilian World Government instructed Obama to hide the Aliens in his basement.

Romanians are under serious manipulation by their media against the only motorway that was built in the last 5 years in the country. Unfortunately, such government-driven manipulation has resulted in an anti-american behavior, which apparently has resulted in affecting this topic as well.

I recommend you take a look at Autostrada Transilvania forum for humor mixed with numerous conspiracy theories.

No worries. They are happy with Carrefour and Real. And Astaldi. And Strabag. Because Europeans never fool Romania.

It is great to see that fences are being installed along the road. In Kukes I panicked when I saw cows cruising on the new motorway.

Macedonia-Kosovo border procedures in railway traffic have been simplified, since they would be carried out at one point on the Kosovo side, in order to reduce the delays and facilitate transport of passengers and commodities.

Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski and Kosovo colleague Fehmi Mujota signed Thursday the agreement for border regulation of railway traffic.

Competent institutions from both countries have agreed that customs and inspection procedures are conducted at the Kosovo side, taking into consideration the better conditions from a technical point of view.

"The agreement obliges both parties to non-discriminatory competition regarding the free access and acceptance of documents originating from international conventions. The agreement text has been developed in line with all European directives and in accordance with treaties that Macedonia is signing with EU member-states", said Minister Janakieski.

Annual commodity transport between Macedonia and Kosovo amounts to 1,200,000 tonnes, whereas passenger transport has over 80-percent used capacity.

"The agreement is significant for both countries, demonstrating the path our countries should follow towards European integration", said Kosovo Minister Mujota.

According to him, the construction of highway Pristina-Hani i Elezit (General Jankovic)-Skopje is in the countries' common interest.

"It will link Corridors 8 and 10, enabling the accelerated development of both countries from an economic aspect. The Kosovo government plans to realize this project by 2014", added Mujota.

Janakieski reiterated that railway links with Albania and Bulgaria are part of the Government's programme.

"A feasibility study, environment study and a draft-project for the railway connection with Albania have already been developed, along with an application for IPA funds over the development of the main project. We expect its approval, followed by the project development, so that construction can begin in 2014-2015", underlined the minister.

Financing from budget to Skopje highway, dangerous

Financing from budget to Skopje highway, dangerous
(Translated using Google Translate ALBANIAN->ENGLISH)

Pristina, October 8 - highway project financing Pristina - Skopje should be done through public partnerships - private, or by making concessions, economic experts estimate in Pristina.

According to them, the construction of this highway to Kosovo Budget funds could send the country into a deep budget crisis.

Arian Zeka, head of the Political Department at the American Chamber of Commerce, suggests that the Kosovo authorities to be careful in managing public money.

"Nobody is against the construction of highways, as this would allow easier movement and faster goods coming from other states as well as internally, but care must be taken on these plans on the construction of highways in the management of public money. Nobody would like a budget deficit of Kosovo, since it could would result in a potential budget crisis country, "says Zeka, Radio Free Europe.

Meanwhile, Minister of Infrastructure, Fehmi Mujota, has warned the manner of financing this project through the Government's stipulations.

He did not give any details about the development and progress within the project, but said that no form of concession has been successful in several other countries.

These warnings of the Government, Arian Zeka by the Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo considers dangerous. He hopes that the government has prepared a good plan and know where those funds will provide budget and do not enter the budget deficit.

However, Zeka provides several options for how to finance this project.

"The best form of financing highway construction would be through an instrument which is to promote the successful launch in Kosovo, this is through a partnership of public - private, and perhaps even by making more concessions. We have seen an example of concession of Pristina International Airport, there already has begun building a new terminal. And to think that this would be a good form for the construction of highway Prishtina - Skopje ", says Zeka.

On the other hand, Alban Zogaj economic affairs expert states that care should be taken regarding other new projects and large.

According to him, the Kosovo authorities must first make the expropriation of lands, properties, where it is planned route, and then continue to implement the project.

"Kosovo is currently imlpementuar a large project. I have the impression that the best would be completed once a large project such as the highway that connects us to Albania, then to begin work in the other direction. Then, the problematic issue is the question of expropriation of property and in the case being made in parallel with the development of the project is causing major delays and loss of cost and efiqencės, "says Zogaj.

Even expert on economic affairs said Alban Zogaj highway project financing Pristina - Skopje with the budget before the country can create high budget deficit.

"One of the forms that we analysts supporting the economy is the form of public partnership - private. When given a private company which finances road projects and implemton project and then returns the investment for a certain time for a 20-year concession, or depending on project size and investment, "he said.

Otherwise, according to the project recently introduced by the Ministry of Infrastructure, highways Pristina - Skopje will be built in a completely new track, with a length of 55 kilometers.

The highway will be two tunnels, while the longest will be one of Kacanik, 2. 2 miles. The maximum speed on the highway, according to the project, will be 120 kilometers per hour.

Prishtina - Pejė Highway. 81 km long. 34 km are 2X2, 47 km to be constructed in the next years. First part, from Prishtina to Sllatinė (near the airport, can be considered as a urban area, since the highway passes thru Prishtina suburbs. From Sllatinė to Gjurgjicė, there is a expressway almost completed.

Intersection for Airport, finally is being completed:

Expressway starts here:

End of expressway, at place Gjurgjicė

The emergency- and exit lanes are separated, I haven't seen it like that elsewhere. But I think the emergency- and entrance lanes aren't separated (as much as I can see in the distance).

Ah, ok. No, they're only separated around exits and are not separated anywhere else in the road. Good eye though, I somehow missed that.

Other videos from this road will follow.
