How about the M9 in the Rugova canyon towards the border with Montenegro (Čakor-pass)? As far as I know there are still plans to reopen the border there, but it hasn't happened yet.

That area is highly problematic, as the Rugova valley/canyon is a National Park and any large-scale construction there is prohibited. There would have to be an environmental study confirming no significant damage to the environment and a special decision by the Parliament declaring that road of "vital national importance". I honestly doubt it will happen anytime soon, but you never know.

I think they should leave the Rugova region the way it is. It is a beautiful part of Kosovo and getting heavy machinery involved would be a crime. Montenegrin border to Pejë is not a particularly long distance.

I saw an article from vijesti.me on Serbian section about building a new MNE - KS road through Decani, rather through Pec.

There's already a road in the valley, it's just a 2x1 and very curvy. It also doesn't go all the way to Montenegro; there's a different road that goes to Montenegro (veru curvy and mountainous but the area is not under protection). The municipality of Peja has recently built a few areas where tourists and hikers/mountainbikers can stop for a rest and to eat/drink.

The current road in Rugova

I think it takes only about 20 minutes to enter Montenegro from Pejë.

More intensive work on the motorway from Prishtina to Kosovo-Macedonian border:

Here's a Video about that project: http://youtu.be/sqg7y2bzc9I

Anyway, I think that project is a bit silly, since there is no real road infrastucture on the Montenegrin side and I didn't read a word that something is planned there. So the road in Kosovo would end at the border...

The road through Rugova canyon would be the better alternative, they just have to ban trucks there and there would be no harm to the nature since traffic will be low... And then you would have time to plan an intelligent solution together (perhaps a tunnel) when traffic finally increases.

Btw: Driving the main road between Peja and Prishtina is aweful! The complete area along the road between the two cities is more or less one big single village... At least during day times, you need ages to manage the distance

@edis_mumin, I'm guessing you don't have a KS registered car, so how much did the car insurance cost?

Our beloved government loves to rip foreign registered cars off.... I think its something like 50 Euros for 2 weeks.

BTW... the illegal businesses and buildings along the main highway in the Ferizaj region should all be demolished in my opinion. It is an absolute mess and the worst part of Kosovo.

I'm not speaking about the construction site, that's normal that it took some time there. The 2x2 part is also not nice to drive since there are just too many accesses.

A rather large part of it is a 2x2 dual carriageway road, so not sure why it's awful to drive?

Too many (illegal?) accesses to businesses and houses, you see them in the videos. There's just too many of it so that traffic flow is disturbed too often by turning cars and people. It's the same situation as it was in Albania a few years ago (e.g. SH2).

It's quite logic since the existing road was just upgraded and I guess the situation will be much better on the new built stretch towards Peja. On the existing, upgraded section the situation is not like an expressway but more like an inner city road with two lanes in each direction.

However, don't misunderstand me! It's not a critic on the Kosovo roads or government, I'm just saying that this road is awful to drive (I was driving there in August by myself), there are a lot roads on that planet that are also awful to drive (e.g. B303 in Germany between Coburg and Kronach or the coastal road in Montenegro)

BTW: What's the point to sign Peja on each exit from junction R7 towards Prishtina?
