The Saudi government plans to extend this existing network by constructing a 950-kilometre railway line between Riyadh and Jeddah, allowing cargo to be transported directly to and from Jeddah to Dammam and onwards to other countries such as the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Iran.

The entire project scope includes:

- Construction of a 115-kilometre line between Dammam and Jubail.

- Upgrading about 450 kilometres of the existing rail link between Riyadh and Dammam.

- Construction of a 610-kilometre railway line between Riyadh and Hudaitha at the border post with Jordan.

- On completion, the Saudi Landbridge railway will connect the port cities of Jeddah, Dammam and Jubail.

- It will pass through Riyadh and serve its dry port.

- The entire Saudi Landbridge project is expected to boost cargo volume by 19.5 per cent to 30 million tonnes and transport 23 million passengers a year.

- Lines will carry both passengers and freight.

- The freight trains will operate at speeds of up to 120 kilometres an hour.

- The passenger trains operating speed will be up to 220 kilometres an hour.

- Estimated project value: $5bn.

Saudi Railways signs $163m rolling stock contract

Saudi Arabia has agreed a $163m contract to buy high-class rolling stock from the Spanish group CAF.

The Saudi Railways Organisation (SRO) will buy locomotives and carriages from the Spanish company. The first will be delivered in four years' time.

The SRO will receive eight train sets in total, each comprising a locomotive and five carriages. They will be able to run at speeds of 200 kilometres per hour, and withstand temperatures of 55°C.

CAF will also build and supply facilities for maintenance of the trains.

The purchase is intended to address a rapid increase in the number of rail passengers in the kingdom as the country's rail network expands.

Saudi rail projects begin to move ahead

While Saudi Arabia's ambitious plan to build a national railway system is moving ahead at a more cautious pace than initially planned there are hopes that further major contracts will be announced by the end of 2008.

A new regulatory authority is to have overall control of the planned system with the current state-owned Saudi Railways Organisation wound up.

The authority will be answerable to the Finance Ministry and manage future contract awards for national railway development.

The regulator will assume responsibility for projects under way, or planned, including the North-South minerals railway, the East-West track linking Jeddah and Dammam ports, and the Haramain project involving a high-speed rail link between Makkah and Medina as well as the planned monorail to connect Makkah to other holy sites.

A contract is expected to be awarded for work on the first phase of the latter project soon after this year's Haj pilgrimage, according to Habib Zain Al-Abidine, deputy minister for municipal and rural affairs. The project comprises an elevated 22-kilometre light railway system linking Makkah with Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat.

The $4bn development is designed to ease congestion for the 3 million pilgrimage visitors and reduce the number of buses currently plying between the sites.


Saudi rail development and funding
The monorail is expected to be developed in parallel with the planned $6bn Hamarain high-speed rail link between Makkah and Medina connecting with new lines from Jeddah to both cities. First tenders for the Hamarain project are expected to be issued within the next three months.

These will cover civil works on the 450km route, building of railway stations and communications, signalling, track and rolling stock as well as operations and maintenance.

In another major development, The Ministry of Finance's Public Investment Fund says it has received interest from 18 international groups for the 480km passenger line between Al-Zabirah junction and Riyadh's King Khaled International Airport and hopes to make a decision by the end of the year.

An award had been thought to have gone to Russian Railways, but the $800m contract was re-tendered by the Finance Ministry in August.

This delay is not expected to affect work on the main north-south railway designed to carry phosphate and bauxite from mines in the north to Ras Az Zour on the coast.

A 576km section between Al-Zabirah and Ras Az Zour is already being developed by Saudi Binladen Group. A further 440km section is being built from Al-Zabirah to the Al-Nafud desert by the Saudi Al-Suwaiket Group with China railways while Japan's Mitsui and Australia's Barclay-Mowlem is developing a 782km section from Al-Nafud to mines at Al-Jalamid and Qurayyat.

Meanwhile, work continues on acquiring land for the east-west 'Landbridge' track planned to connect Jeddah and Dammam. According to SRO president Abdulaziz al-Hokail agreement for most of the land required has been obtained. The successful consortium is expected to be confirmed within months.


The government is already considering additional spur lines from the Landbridge to connect Jeddah with Abha as well as links to Jubail and to the new King Abdullah Economic City.

Transport Ministry identifies rail track locations in Jeddah

JEDDAH: The Ministry of Transport has identified locations in Jeddah through which a proposed rail track connecting Jeddah with the Riyadh-Dammam rail line will be laid, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.

“The ministry has determined the route of the railway that would link Jeddah Islamic Port to Dammam,” said Ibrahim Kutubkhana, undersecretary for projects at the Jeddah Municipality.

In order to minimize loss or inconvenience to local citizens and private property owners, the railway will pass through public properties and unused spaces as much as possible, said a source at the Ministry of Transport.

“The project includes a railway station at the Jeddah Islamic Port and another in the city that would also serve as a junction linking King Abdul Aziz International Airport with the Makkah-Madinah line and the Dammam line,” Kutubkhana added.
The line will also be connected with Yanbu and Jubail.

The municipal official hinted that the city station would be at the Old Airport where bullet trains and hanging trains will be in service.

The project would make use of open areas including the floodwater drainage canals and government properties in the city and its suburbs, the officials said. The project is expected to ease road traffic in the three regions of Riyadh, Makkah and Eastern Province where 70 percent of the Saudi population is concentrated, besides promoting overall industrial and commercial activities in the Kingdom.

SRO invites revised bids

JEDDAH: has decided to invite revised bids to compete for the contract to construct a railway project linking the Red Sea port city of Jeddah with Dammam on the Arabian Gulf, according to Al-Riyadh newspaper yesterday.

Three bid for re-tendered Saudi Landbridge project

All three expected consortiums met the 31 January deadline for bids to build the Saudi Landbridge rail project, including a joint submission between the two former leading groups.
Sources close to the project have indicated they expect a winner to be announced by early-March at the latest.

The Tarabot and Tracc consortiums, led by the local Acwa Power and Saudi Binladin Group respectively, succeeded in filing their joint bid to secure the $7bn rail project. The two had previously been preferred and reserve bidders on the project, but chose to join forces days before the deadline when refreshed financial bids were requested, as revealed in MEED (MEED 25:1:09).

وقع معالي وزير المالية رئيس مجلس إدارة صندوق الاستثمارات العامة الدكتور إبراهيم بن عبدالعزيز العساف في مكتبه بالوزارة اليوم ثلاثة عقود للشركة السعودية للخطوط الحديدية ( سار) بقيمة إجمالية قدرها (2.390.000.000) ريال تمثل عقد نُظم الاتصالات وإشارات التحكم وعقد توريد القاطرات وعقد توريد العربات المقطورات وذلك لمشروع سكة حديد " الشمال - الجنوب " الممتد من حزم الجلاميد والحديثة شمال المملكة إلى رأس الزور شمال الجبيل مروراً بالجوف وحائل والقصيم والرياض والبالغ طوله 2400 كيلومتر.

وتبلغ قيمة عقد نُظم الاتصالات وإشارات التحكم المُوقع مع تحالف شركة تاليس الفرنسية بالتضامن مع مجموعة بن لادن السعودية (1.710.000.000) ريال ومدة تنفيذه خمس سنوات ويشتمل على تأسيس شبكة الإشارات والتحكم وأنظمه الاتصالات المراقبة والأمن باستخدام نظام التحكم الأوروبي .

كما يشتمل على إنشاء مركز التشغيل والمراقبة وأنظمة التذاكر ومعلومات المسافرين والانترنت داخل محطات القطار إضافة إلى ربط الطريق بشبكة من الألياف البصرية .

وفي إطار حرص صندوق الاستثمارات العامة على مشاركة الشركات الوطنية لنقل وتوطين تقنية السكة الحديدية بالمملكة فقد تم توقيع مذكرة تفاهم بين الشركة المنفذة لهذا العقد وشركة الالكترونيات المتقدمة (وهي إحدى شركات برنامج التوازن الاقتصادي) يتضمن مشاركة المهندسين والفنيين السعوديين في مراحل تنفيذ هذا العقد بما في ذلك التشغيل والصيانة وتصنيع قطع الغيار اللازمة .

وفيما يخص عقد القاطرات الموقع مع الشركة الأمريكية إلكتروموتف ديزل فتبلغ قيمته ( 337.794.487 ) ريالاً ويشتمل على تصميم وتصنيع وتوريد 25 قاطرة بقوة 4300 حصان تستخدم لقطارات معدن الفوسفات بطول 3 كيلومتر بمعدل 160 عربة لكل قطار وبحمولة تصل إلى 16000 طناً للقطار الواحد كما تستخدم أيضا للنقل العام كما يتضمن العقد توفير الدعم الفني من قبل الشركة لمدة سنتين بعد التوريد .

وتبلغ قيمة العقد الثالث الموقع مع الشركة الصينية الجنوبية للقاطرات والمقطورات المحدودة لتصنيع وتوريد عربات شحن المعادن والشحن العام (342.299.074) ريالاً ويشتمل على تصميم وتصنيع وتوريد 668 عربة منها 524 عربة لنقل معدن الفوسفات بحمولة مائة طن لكل عربة و144 عربة مسطحة وصهاريج وحاويات للنقل العام والمنتجات البترولية ويتضمن العقد توفير الدعم الفني من قبل الشركة لمدة سنتين بعد التوريد .

وكان الصندوق قد تعاقد في وقت سابق على تنفيذ عدد من المراحل الأولية لهذا المشروع وهي الخاصة بالأعمال الأرضية بمنطقة النفود والأعمال المدنية ومنها تنفيذ أكثر من 500 مليون متراً مكعباً من الأعمال الأرضية وتشييد عدد من الجسور والعبارات ومعابر الجمال وإنتاج أكثر من 4 ملايين من العوارض الخرسانية وربط 280 ألف طن من القضبان الحديدية .

ويأتي هذا المشروع ضمن برنامج تنموي استراتيجي يهدف إلى تعزيز وسائل النقل والمواصلات واستغلال مناطق الثروة المعدنية في المملكة وذلك وفقاً لقرار مجلس الوزراء في 4 / 3 / 1424هـ الذي أناط بالصندوق إقامة هذا المشروع بهدف نقل خامات الفوسفات والبوكسابت من شمال ووسط البلاد إلى منشآت المعالجة والتعدين برأس الزور على الخليج العربي .

وأوضح معالي وزير المالية الدكتور إبراهيم العساف أن قيمة العقود الموقعة في مشروعات السكك الحديدية بلغ أكثر من ( 12) مليار ريال بما في ذلك تسوية الأرض وفتح طرق في النفود وكذلك وضع سكة الحديد نفسها .

وقال // عقود اليوم لتأمين القاطرات والمقطورات وأنظمة الاتصالات والتحكم وقد قطعنا شوطاً كبيراً في هذا المجال وبقي بعض الأمور مثل المحطات// .

وأكد في تصريح صحفي عقب التوقيع أن المشروع يسير وفق ما خطط له وستكون انتهائه متزامناً مع انتهاء المنشآت التي تتعامل مع الفوسفات والبوكسايت في رأس الزور مشيراً إلى أن بدء انطلاق قطار التعدين عام 2010م وسيكون متزامناً مع انتهاء المنشآت في رأس الزور .

وبخصوص الكادر الهندسي أفاد معاليه أنهم اشترطوا على الشركة الرئيسة التي ستنفذ أنظمة الاتصال والتحكم أن تتعاون مع شركة سعودية في مستوى ممتاز هي شركة الالكترونيات المتقدمة لتصنيع بعض الأجزاء الخاصة في المشروع .

وقال // سنحاول ربط جميع أجزاء المشروع مع صناعات أو أبحاث محلية في مجال القطارات وتطوير صناعة النقل في سكة الحديد سواء فيما يتعلق بالتصنيع أو بالإدارة داخل المملكة // .

وأشار الدكتور العساف في هذا الصدد إلى عدة مشاريع مثل مشروع قطار الحرمين الذي وقع قبل عدة أسابيع وكذلك مشروع الجسر البري الذي يربط جده بالرياض وهناك بحث آخر في مراحل ابتدائية وهو ربط دول مجلس التعاون بسكة حديد .

Saudi to invite designs for Landbridge project

A tender targeting local contractors for the Landbridge rail project in Saudi Arabia is imminent.

Saudi Arabia's state-owned Public Investment Fund (PIF), and its unit Saudi Railway Company, is to invite local and international consultants to prepare designs for the Landbridge rail project next week. This will reportedly take place next week, according to Jeddah-based daily newspaper Okaz.

"After the appointment of the project manager, a tender will be launched targeting local contractors, who will form consortia with international companies to implement the project," said Al Maiman.

The $7bn mega-project was approved by Saudi Arabia's Council of Ministers in October 2011. It involves construction of 950km of line between Riyadh and Jeddah, plus another 115km between Dammam and Jubail. The project also covers the expansion if the existing Riyadh to Dammam railway.

Once completed, the nation’s first link between the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf will see freight speed between Jeddah and the King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam.

وأكد منصور الميمان أن شركة «سار» تسعى إلى جعل قطاراتها إنجازاً وطنياً رائداً على صعيد وسائل النقل في المملكة، مبيناُ أن هذه المجموعة من القطارات تعتبر الدفعة الأولى لقطارات ركاب شركة سار مع إمكانية زيادة عدد القطارات مستقبلاً مع زيادة الحجم التشغيلي لخدمة نقل الركاب. من جانبه، أوضح الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة (سار) الدكتور رميح بن محمد الرميح أن السرعة التشغيلية لتلك القطارات تبلغ مائتي كيلومتر في الساعة الواحدة، وتمتاز باستيفائها المواصفات العالمية بهدف منح كل راكب أعلى درجات الراحة والرفاهية، وحول الطاقة الاستيعابية للقطارات أشار الدكتور الرميح إلى أن القطار الواحد يتسع لـ 514 راكبا للمسافات المتوسطة التي تمتد من الرياض إلى حائل مروراً بالمجمعة والقصيم، أما في الرحلات الطويلة، والتي تمتد من الرياض إلى القريات مروراً بالجوف فيوجد فيها مقصورات مخصصة للنوم وتبلغ الطاقة الاستيعابية للقطار 390 راكبا. وردا على سؤال بشأن إنشاء محطة لقطار سار في محافظة الزلفي حيث يطالب أهالي تلك المحافظة بإيجاد محطة توقف للقطار فيها، أوضح لـ «الشرق» الرميح أن مطالبة أهالي الزلفي ليست الوحيدة، بل أن الشركة تلقت مطالبات من عدة قرى، كي يتوقف القطار عندها، مشيرا إلى أن الخط الحديدي يمر بقرب الزلفي وليس عبرها، مؤكدا أنه حتى الآن لم يتم إقرار وضع محطة توقف لقطار سار في محافظة الزلفي، متوقعا أن يكون هناك تفرعات للقطار لخدمة بعض المحافظات والمراكز. وفيما يتعلق بحوادث القطارات عالميا وما اتخذ لتجنبها محليا، أوضح الدكتور رميح أن السلامة والأمان كان نقطة ارتكاز رئيسة في كافة مراحل التخطيط والتنفيذ لسكة قطار سار من أقصى شمال المملكة إلى العاصمة الرياض، مبينا أن الخط سيكون مسيجا وأن أية تقاطعات أرضية وأي انتقال من نقطة إلى أخرى سيكون عبر جسر فوق خط القطار أو عبر نفق تحت الخط.

استلام عروض 9 ائتلافات لإعداد تصاميم قطار الجسر البري




كشف لـ «عكاظ» الرئيس التنفيذي للشركة السعودية للخطوط الحديدية الدكتور رميح بن محمد الرميح عن استلام عروض من تسعة ائتلافات متنافسة على مشروع الجسر البري الذي سيربط ميناء جدة الإسلامي بمدينة الرياض المرتبطة مع ميناء الدمام من خلال القطار.
وقال الدكتور الرميح لقد تقدمت للمهام الاستشارية للمشروع خمسة ائتلافات، وأربعة ائتلافات لإعداد تصاميم مسار القطار، وأن هذه العروض خاضعة حاليا للدراسة من قبل الشركة لتقييمها من النواحي الفنية والمالية ومن ثم ترسيتها.
وأكد الرئيس التنفيذي للخطوط الحديدية أن ذلك يأتي تمشيا مع صدور توجيهات خادم الحرمين الشريفين بتنفيذ الجسر البري الذي يربط ميناء جدة بمدينة الرياض المرتبط مع ميناء الدمام من خلال القطار. مؤكدا ترسية المشروع على شركات متخصصة للتنفيذ خلال الأشهر المقبلة. مشيرا إلى أن شركة سار تعمل على ربط الموانئ في الخليج العربي بشبكة القطارات.
وبين الرميح أن الشركة أرست مشروع إنشاء محطة الركاب والمقر الرئيسي للشركة وورشة صيانة قطارات الركاب. بالإضافة لمحطة التزود بالوقود ضمن مشاريع الشركة لمنطقة الرياض بمساحات إجمالية بلغت 750 ألف متر مربع تقريبا، بقيمة 672 مليون ريال وذلك بعد أن تم طرح المنافسة على أحد عشر تحالفا تم تأهيلهم مسبقا للمشروع.
وتبلغ مدة التنفيذ 24 شهرا، حيث من المقرر أن تدخل المحطة حيز التشغيل خلال النصف الثاني من 2014 م بالتزامن مع اكتمال باقي عناصر المشروع التي تشمل مد السكة الحديدية وتصنيع و توريد قطارات الركاب.
وأكد أن الشركة حرصت عند إعداد تصاميم المحطة الجمع بين جمال التصميم، وكفاءة التشغيل. وتبلغ مساحة مبنى المحطة 49 ألف متر مربع، ويتكون المشروع من صالتين منفصلتين لكل من الوصول والمغادرة، تم تجهيز الأولى في منطقة لاستقبال شحن حقائب وأمتعة المسافرين والأخرى بأحزمة متحركة لاستلامها عند الوصول. ويحوي المبنى ساحة للمطاعم ومنطقة خدمات تضم مجموعة من المحال التجارية ومكاتب للخدمات السياحية، وتأجير السيارات ومكتبا للبريد ، كما يوجد بالمحطة رصيفان للركاب بمساحة 20 ألف متر مربع ومسجد يتسع لـ 300 مصل. ويقع مقر المحطة في الجنوب الشرقي لمطار الملك خالد الدولي. حيث تم تحديد الموقع بالتنسيق مع مقام إمارة منطقة الرياض، وهيئة الطيران المدني والجهات ذات العلاقة. ويشمل مبنى المقر الرئيسي للشركة المكون من ثلاثة طوابق جميع الأقسام الفنية والإدارية و المركز الرئيسي للإشارات والتحكم لكامل الشبكة الحديدية.
وتكون محطة الرياض المحطة الرئيسية لخط الركاب في السكة الحديد، الممتد من القريات شمال المملكة إلى الرياض.
وكان وزير المالية رئيس مجلس إدارة صندوق الاستثمارات العامة الدكتور إبراهيم بن عبد العزيز العساف وقع في وقت سابق عقودا لإنشاء خمس محطات في كل من القريات والجوف وحائل والقصيم والمجمعة.
وقال الرميح إن القطار سيشكل عند تشغيله وسيلة نقل مريحة وآمنة للمواطنين و المقيمين إضافة إلى إسهامه المباشر والفعال في تخفيف العبء على الطرق بين المدن وخفض استهلاك الوقود. منوها بأن الشركة تسعى إلى إنجاز مشروع يعتبر بكامل أجزائه أكبر شبكة للخطوط الحديدية في المنطقة يبلغ مجموع طولها 2،750 كم تمر بست مناطق إدارية.
وقال إن ترسية إنشاء سكة حديد رأس الخير ــ الجبيل بخط يبلغ طوله 85 كم ضمن مشروع مدة تنفيذه 30 شهرا، وبقيمة 665 مليون ريال بعد أن تم طرح المنافسة على عشرة تحالفات تم تأهيلها مسبقا للمشروع. تأتي إنفاذا لتوجيه خادم الحرمين الشريفين بقرار المجلس الاقتصادي الأعلى الصادر في شهر ربيع الأول من العام الماضي 1432هـ ، المتضمن تكليف (سار) بتنفيذ الوصلة التي تربط رأس الخير بمدينة الجبيل الصناعية وبالمؤانى وبمدينة الدمام ضمن مشروع شبكتها للخطوط الحديدية .
وقامت الشركة في نفس سياق القرار بطرح إنشاء خط الجبيل ـ الدمام وترسية إعداد تصاميم الشبكة الداخلية للجبيل الصناعية على شركة SNC Lavalin، حيث تمهد حاليا لطرح مشروع إنشائها عند اكتمال اعتماد التصاميم.
ونوه الرميح بالعوائد المنتظرة من إنشاء هذه الشبكة بين كل من رأس الخير والجبيل باعتبارهما مناطق الصناعات التعدينية و البتروكيماوية في المملكة، وما سيحققه ربطهما بموانئ الجبيل والدمام لأغراض التصدير والاستيراد، إضافة إلى دعم الصناعات الوطنية. حيث سيسهل الربط بالخط الحديدي التابع للمؤسسة العامة للخطوط الحديدية وصول منتجات الشركات من المواد الأولية في هاتين المدينتين إلى باقي المدن الاقتصادية والصناعية في مختلف مناطق المملكة من جهة، ومن جهة أخرى فتح أسواق جديدة لمنتجات القطاع الصناعي في مختلف المناطق، ما يزيد في قيمة الناتج المحلي الإجمالي.

اخوي في فرق كبير بين قطار الحرمين و قطار الجسر البري قطار الحرمين قطار كهربائ وهذا النوع يحتاج بناء محطات كهربائية ملازمة للمشروع و هو اكثر تكلفة ماليه و تفاصيل تقنية اكثر تعقيد من النوع الثاني من القطارات الى هي قطارات الديزل وهذا النوع اقل تعقيدا و اسرع في البناء واقل تكلفة والافضل في حالات نقل البضائع تحياتي

الافضل للركاب هو القطار الكهربائي اكيد بلا شك

وعلى ما اظن ان قطار الجسر البري للركاب رح يكون كهربائي
لان في احد التقارير سمعت ان قطار الجسر البري رح يكون سرعته ٣٥٠

وللمعلوميه ان اقصى سرعه لقطارات الديزل هو ٢٠٠ مثل ماهو معمول في قطار الشمال جنوب و الدمام الرياض

ودائما اسرع القطارات في العالم تكون بالكهرباء

ولكن متى سيبدا مشروع الركاب باضبط!
