Banja Luka - Split motorway being mentioned again...

The project for the construction of the Banja Luka-Mlinica highway in the final phase - the Chinese bank is waiting for BiH's approval of the loan approval

The head of the Republika Srpska Autoput company, Dusan Topic, said that the project for the construction of the Banja Luka-Mlinica highway is in the final phase, and that the highway is planned to be built with funds from the preferential state loan of China, with very favorable conditions.

- In negotiations with Chinese partners, we have come to an end, but the Chinese bank for the final approval of this loan insists that we have a consent and some type of letter of support and guarantee from the level of BiH, ie from the Council of Ministers, and this has been patiently waiting for the past several months - emphasized Topić .

Topić pointed out that the future highway Banja Luka-Mliništa is specific, and that it is specific and its profitability, which will be visible only after the road is merged with Split.

Commenting on the claims of some representatives of the opposition in Srpska that this highway is unprofitable, Topić stressed that the construction of this road was planned in phases, and that the first phase to Mrkonjić Grad would be functional right after the completion, because it would connect to AVNOJ's Road.

Topić pointed out that from the planned 62 kilometers, from Glamočan to AVNOJ, about 20 kilometers only the bypass around Banja Luka, which in itself is extremely important, due to unloading traffic in the city itself.

- The full capacity would be obtained when the motorway connects with the Federation of BiH and further with Croatia. This is a long-term project, and when it is so looked at, it is no less justified or unjustified than other directions in Srpska - said Topić.

Who will build the highway to Split?
Source: SEEbiz

Chinese companies are interested to build a motorway from Banja Luka to Split via Mliništa, said President Alexander RS Džombić.

It is true that they are interested. They asked for documentation. In the decision of the Chinese government wants to set aside significant funds for infrastructure projects in the region and support the banks through their contractors, "said Džombić.

Džombić added that the project concerned and Croatia, noting that it is about 90 kilometers of highway in the Serbian Republic, about 20 kilometers in the Federation and about 20 kilometers from Split.

"They were very interested to secure a loan on favorable terms, somewhere between three and four per cent, to enter into a position to build this road," said Džombić.

In the section of the Banja Luka-Gradiska in Mahovljani tomorrow will be opened for traffic Mahovljanska loop, most complex project of road infrastructure in the Republic of Serbian worth 11.5 million.

This facility will be at full capacity after the road Banja Luka - Doboj which have historically been interested in Chinese.

The Chinese have been signed for construction of Banja Luka - Doboj, but after breaking several deadlines were not able to provide the required bank guarantee of 400 million euros.

That was then, this is now

Any upcoming election posturing aside, it's quite obvious that things have changed since 2012...including the math. Five years ago we didn't have Chinese building three motorway sections in Serbia, and that's not including the Belgrade orbital motorway where prep work is underway, not to mention the really tough & expensive section of motorway in Montenegro where others have previously tried, but failed. For Chinese, Serb Republic is a logical next step

With ongoing motorway construction slowly winding down, Serb Republic has entered into talks with Serbia about joint construction of new sections of highway, specifically the Bijeljina-SRB border, with the two entities jointly financing the new Sava river motorway bridge:
