I like it. As long as the won't knock down Arc de Triomphe everything is okay!

Another video of the tower: http://www.pavillon-arsenal.com/videosenligne/index.php

Screenshots from France2 TV news:

View of the tower in the distance as seen from La Défense. The tower is located 7.7 km (4.8 miles) from La Défense as the crow flies.

The design features a pyramidal block structure which will rise to 200 m and Hidalgo hopes that this design will “provide the city of Paris a true symbol commensurate with its economic vitality”. Others may be less excited about the prospect of a tower in the heart of the city however with 62% of the Parisian population opposed to high rises in the city. While Paris holds three regions for tall buildings on the outskirts, including La Defense to the West, the Triangle will be the third tallest structure in the inner city after the Eiffel Tower and Tour Montparnasse in the Montparnasse region. Due to be completed in 2012 the tower will contain offices a conference centre and a 400 bedroom hotel.

Is this tower located within the Paris city limits? If so, then I do not want this built. Buildings of that height should be confined outside the city limits. And I don't think the tower would be suitable for La Defense.

I don't see any difference between build high-rises inside city proper and outside it.
There is high-rise u/c or in project at 500m of this place, Of course these are officially not in Paris but Issy les Moulineaux but in reality the result is the same.
In few years Paris city proper could be 7 times larger and 4 times more populated.

I believe that many people have a wrong vison of Paris city proper itself, it is not all Haussmannian building, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe or Notre Dame.
There is also many high-rises inside inner Paris, the last over 100m was build in 1990 at 1 km of the Eiffel tower.

A post of Brisavoine about it.

The Front de Seine towers, one of the largest and tallest residential complex in Europe, are located just next to the Eiffel Tower in Central Paris.

The Jussieu Tower is located within walking distance of Notre Dame and the Panthéon, in the Medieval heart of the city.

The Chinatown towers are also in Central Paris (here in the background, with the Paris City Hall and Pompidou Centre in the middleground).

No, the truth is, tourists come to Paris with expectations of Amélie and Moulin Rouge, a gone-by cliché Paris unchanged since 1900, and they are completely blind to the real Paris they have in front of their eyes. I have met countless numbers of foreigners who visited Paris and didn't remember having seen the towers that were glaringly standing in front of them. The human mind works in a strange way, there are things that we are completely blind to even if they are just in front of us, probably because they were not part of our expectations.

And he missed many high-rises especially near the Parc Chaumont.

Great tower, Paris deserves more towers - not just in La Dèfense, don't understand why some think the whole of Paris should be flat.. This one is so good looking that it's better for it to stand alone, than to be in the middle of all the scrapers.

First I didn't liked it because it wouldn't fit in the city skyline and it looks odd between all those historical buildings. And such a pyramid tower looks strange anyway but I think it looks better and better everytime I watch it. Now I think such a tower has to stand alone and the design looks actually ok now.

I will wait with my final judgement till it's built

The majority of the building around were build after the WWII.
