I love it. I always wanted to see a triangle-shaped building, besides the one in North Korea.

Yes, it's within the administrative limits of the City of Paris.

This is where this tower will be built exactly (red shape):

Hmm ok, i kinda liked the messy facade in the earlier renders... It's looks pretty isolated to. But still, a very cool design.

Paris Council Approves $730m Skyscraper

Quote:
On 29 march, Paris City Council in France has approved plans for the construction of a $730m triangular building designed by Herzog and de Meuron.

The 40-storey skyscraper will house offices, a conference hall, restaurants and shops.

Construction on the 180m-tall building is expected to begin in 2012.

Jacques Herzog, co-architect of the project, said the building would use wind and solar energy.

The privately financed building is expected to be completed in 2017.

Is it me or Unibail Rodamco seem to be building and will be building a shitload of buildings at the moment. Every thread about Paris that I check, they seem to be the developpers.

PS: The tower will become an architectural symbol of modern Paris

590ft controversial ‘Triangle’ tower to be built in Paris

3 april

Quote:
Paris town council has given the green light to a controversial “Triangle” tower rising 590ft above Paris which critics say is an “attack on the beauty of the French capital”.

A computer generated image of how the “Triangle” tower will look.

By Henry Samuel, Paris 3:55PM BST 31 Mar 2011 Full Article Here:-
The 40-storey steel and glass building will be the first skyscraper to be built inside the French capital in more than 30 years and will cost 535m euros (£472 million)

The privately financed building, scheduled for completion by 2017, will overlook Paris from its southwestern extremity at the porte de Versailles, already home to a vast exhibition centre.

It will include mainly offices, a conference hall, panoramic restaurants and ground-floor shops, creating 5,000 jobs according to local authorities.

Earlier plans to include a hotel, swimming pool and museum have been scrapped.

But while Paris’s cross-party council this week approved a protocol agreement for the tower, Greens and defenders of Paris’ heritage fiercely oppose it.

C'est canon cette tour. Personnellement ce qui me plairait après ça, c'est une tour en sablier. C'est la prochaine étape.

Are you being ironic Jean Bonnau...? If so, it's best to save your posts for the french speaking thread.

I'm guessing this tower is the Parisian equivalent of London's controversial, love/hate and approved 20 Fenchurch Street*!

I've always loved 20FS but let's not stray from the point, back to Triangle!

There are 2 administrative steps left before the start of its construction due in 18 months (october 2012). Indeed, the P.L.U. (Plan Local d'Urbanisme) must be revised next september & then the planning permission must submitted early 2012

If they build the Triangle Tower, then should the nearby exhibition centre recieve a facelift or upgrade or should Paris get a primary exhibition centre built elsewhere in its area (existing or brand-new)?

I agree Jim, the Parc des Expositions sucks, it's so old-fashioned/gloomy & hideous looking...Triangle's gonna put new life into this part of the 15th arrondissement which cruely needs it.The whole area will benefit from this new parisian landmark.

Reminder: the right bit of the Parc des Expositions will be partially demolished to allow Triangle's construction.

On the far left (not visible in this picture) the 'french Pentagon' will be taking shape next january, & on the far right just after the Dome (see the below picture), Triangle also will from 2013.

Triangle will actually be built in the Ernest Renan street, between the white Dome (called Géode) & the rectangular shaped building in the background (near the flags).
