I personally think building secondary city skylines is wasting an enormous opportunity......develop that stuff in the downtown area to build a blockbuster center city/downtown! The suburbs are sooooooooo dull, don't we all know that already?

For example, if South Park had been developed in one of Charlotte's 1-4 Uptown Wards, Charlotte's center city could be one of the most dynamic urban destinations in the States.

I don't know about all of that, about when your saying that uptown would have been one of the most dynamic urban center's in america. But I do know that it would have been a lot bigger.

The secondary skylines aren't necessarily in suburban areas...I can't speak for skylines in other cities, but Atlanta's 3 main skylines are all in the city of Atlanta and not in suburbia - Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead.

I don't think anyone purposefully tries to build a secondary skyline...it just develops over time as more highrises are built in a particular area. It is usually due to astronomical land prices in downtown areas and developers are looking for a less expensive alternative.

They also develope second skyline's because of the zoning.

And although the Midtown Alliance projects Midtown at 35,000 by 2010, I would imagine that its already close to that by now.

Buckhead is urban and suburban to me, because its not in the central part of atlanta. It has very nice tower's but they seem like tall suburban style building's, it seemed as if it was surronded by suburbia, but like I said before I was younger last time I went to Buckhead (like 13 or 14), but last time I went to atlanta was last year. I want to drive down there soon but im scared of one part of georgia when you start seeing a lot of trees and bears along I20, it it seems like Forever to get to atlanta. I had my drivers permit then and I had to stop at this nasty microtel inn which was like a truck stop.

Scared of one part of Georgia? And you live in South Carolina? That makes absolutely no sense.

It sounds like you've made a quick assessment of Buckhead based on photos and a childhood vacation. That makes absolutely no sense either.

I've never seen a bear in Georgia...I know they exist, but it's hard to believe you saw bears driving along I-85. Your choice of hotels has nothing to do with Atlanta.

I definatly would not call it suburban but its not the most urban of places in the sense we use here. Not at all pedestrian friendly. You have patches of buildings with great street enviorment then next to that building is one with a parking garage or totally isolated. Not like Downtown or not even to Midtowns which isnt as urban as Downtown either. It has touches of urbanity but lacks immensely. Its like alot of the urban centers of suburbs everywhere.

Well, whatever your opinions are about Buckhead and it's urbanity, or lack thereof...it's in the city of Atlanta and most definitely IS NOT a suburb. The fact that you can find some suburban features of an area do not automatically make the area suburban. You can debate the subject all you want, but the fact is that it is part of the city and part of the urban, built up area of Atlanta. Period.
