That grillwork around the entrance doesn't strike me as very Chinese either, nor do I find it particularly Art Deco.

Hmm..when I saw the building in real life, Chinese didnt spring to my mind, it had a more Hindu-like feel to it. In any case there is a very Oriental feel to it but I cant pinpoint any specific theme.
And as huaiwei said, glass is not the main focus. The thing that catches you is the extremely dark and rich chocolate brown that seems to absorb all the energy of its surroundings

Heirloom, I neglected to compliment you for those terrific pictures!
![]() ![]() ![]() I agree with the rest of us: there is nothing particularly Chinese about Parkview. But it IS a super fine A-1 specimen of an Art Deco building!

Just what are you people smoking?
Fine, you can call the window lattice a typical voodoo inspired design or something if it feels better. ![]() ![]() WH, I didn't say the Chinese Lattice design was art deco, but that it blended in well with the art deco stuff. Too well it seems. Btw, that architecture element is usually brownish as far as I know.

No reason to become paranoid all of a sudden, Jo
All we're doing here is sitting around in a friendly fashion and looking at architecture. Occasionally someone disagrees with the others (happens to me quite frequently as a matter of fact ). So what's the big deal? Nobody has been ing you, have they? And from your post and the pictures you show I now realize you were talking about the INTERIOR of Parkview! Well, that's a totally different story ... I was contemplating & commenting on the EXterior ... maybe some of the others as well.

Oh dear poor Jo..
![]() Hey I didnt completely rule out the possibility..noticed I said that there was something Oriental about the design? Its just that the motif was very well integrated with the highrise part of the building, creating a hybrid. That was sharp of you to pick out the elements though @drwho..I havent come across any black and white ones, but I could try to use photoshop to apply the black and white imagery
