tignan mo si heart , kim chu, chinay, magaganda diba?
yeah we shouldn't compromise food quality for cheap price, pero minsan maraming kababayang mahihirap at mura lang kaya nila at maraming salbaheng govt. officials pinapalampas ang mga unsafe products kahit alam na makasasama basta lang me lagay.

If they continue this "Made in China" will be an idiom for cheap and cheezy.
so what's really the real score here i thought this dumpling poisoning is 'deliberately contaminated" or a criminal act done in part in japan not china really?

My favorite milk tea!

THE HAGUE -- Anglo-Dutch company Unilever confirmed Tuesday it was recalling brands of Lipton milk tea powder in Hong Kong after they were found tainted with "small quantities" of an industrial chemical.

"Small quantities of melamine were found in the milk tea powder of the Lipton brand sold in Hong Kong and Macau," Unilever spokesman Gerberg van Genderen told AFP.

The company recalled "a few thousands boxes" of its brand Lipton milk tea.

"As far as I know, the product was manufactured in Hong Kong," van Genderen said.

The Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety has urged the public to stop drinking the product in the latest fallout from a toxic milk scandal which has made some 53,000 babies ill and killed four in mainland China.

Countries around the world have banned or restricted imports of Chinese milk products after it emerged that they contained the industrial chemical melamine, usually used in the making of plastic.

Watch out also for this chemical Triclosan 三氯沙 in any products
Other 5 names for triclosan 另有 5 種名稱 吳家誠昨天公布六種三氯沙的英文名稱: Triclosan 、Aquasept 、 Gamophen 、Irgasan、 Sapoderm 、 Ster_Zac

Long term exposure to this chemical will also cause cancer. Usually in toothpaste, facial wash, dishwashing liquids, handwash, wet tissues, soaps, etc...

Vol. XXII, No. 48
Wednesday, October 1, 2008 | MANILA, PHILIPPINES

The Nation
Task force formed to monitor sale of Chinese milk
MALACAŅANG HAS formed an interagency panel to monitor the distribution and sale of banned milk and milk products from China.

In a press briefing yesterday, Deputy Presidential Spokesman Lorelei C. Fajardo said the group was tasked to file charges against businessmen caught selling and distributing Chinese products that may pose dangers to public health.

"The team will make sure that milk products from China are banned until they are cleared by BFAD (Bureau of Food and Drugs) One of the purposes of the team is to immediately file a case against those who violate [the ban]," she said.

The team will consist of BFAD, Department of Trade and Industry, National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Interior and Local Government, Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group and Department of Justice.

In a statement provided to Palace reporters, BFAD Director Leticia B. Gutierrez said Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III has ordered BFAD to pursue immediate legal action against establishments found selling banned milk and milk products.

BFAD said the Bureau of Customs (BoC) has created a Condemnation Committee that will dispose the imported milk products confiscated by authorities. It will consist of the BoC, BFAD, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other agencies to be determined by the BFAD.

"The secretary [of Health] directed BFAD to issue a directive to manufacturers to fully disclose the source and identity of the milk-based ingredients used in their products," Ms. Gutierrez said.

Ms. Fajardo said the concerned agencies have yet to furnish them data on the number of establishments caught selling the banned products.

The government has been imposing strict measures against the sale and distribution of Chinese food products after the discovery of contaminated milk that has so far killed four and downed more than 50,000 children in China.

Meanwhile, milk samples collected by BFAD are going to be tested for melamine contamination later this week. A delay in the arrival of reference standards pushed back the release of test results.

"The reference standards have arrived so tests can start already," Mr. Duque said.

The BFAD has also added Cadbury chocolates to the list of products for testing.

Cadbury’s British owner pulled its products off from store shelves in Hong Kong and Australia after discovering that its Chinese-manufactured chocolates contained melamine.

The BFAD is worried that some overseas workers may have brought the chocolates into the country as gifts.

Meanwhile, a major lapse was committed by regional Health department officials in the monitoring of Chinese dairy products in Cagayan de Oro City, a city councilor claimed on Monday.

An earlier report from the regional Health department office claimed dairy products from China are not being sold in the city.

But city officials and representatives from the regional offices of the Health department and BFAD were surprised when assorted China-made milk products were presented during the city council’s plenary session.

Councilor Dante B. Pajo, chairman of the committee on health and social services, said he went shopping over the weekend at this city’s Cogon public market and bought cheap Chinese dairy products, including brands on the BFAD’s banned list.

Dr. Simer E. Belacho of the Department of Health’s regional regulatory and licensing enforcement division, who told the city’s councilors last week that China-based dairy products were not sold here, declined to comment on his previous claim. — Alexis Douglas B. Romero, Emilia Narni J. David and Penny Lyn P. Cunanan

Australia recalls cookies in tainted milk scandal

Wednesday, October 1, 2008 09:02 PM

SYDNEY (AP) - Australian food regulators recalled a popular line of chocolate-filled cookies today, the third product withdrawn from the country's stores in the wake of China's tainted milk scandal.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand said in a statement it was recalling Lotte Koala Biscuits as a precaution following overseas reports that the treats were contaminated with melamine, the industrial chemical that has sickened tens of thousands of Chinese children.

The cookies were recalled in Hong Kong and the southern Chinese territory of Macau last week. The Macau government reported tests on the cookies - made by Tokyo-based Lotte Group - revealed melamine levels 24 times the safe limit.
