สำนักข่าวต่างประเทศรายงานว่า ไอเอฟอาร์เอ องค์กรชั้นนำของโลก ด้านอุตสาหกรรมสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ ที่มีสำนักงานอยู่ 10 แห่งทั่วโลก และมีสำนักงานใหญ่อยู่ที่เมืองดาร์มสตัด ประเทศเยอรมนี ได้ยกเลิกการประชุมหนังสือพิมพ์ครั้งสำคัญของเอเชีย ที่กำหนดจะมีขึ้นที่กรุงเทพมหานครช่วงเดือนพฤษภาคมนี้ ซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากความผันผวนทางการเมืองในประเทศไทย ทั้งนี้ การประชุมที่มีชื่อว่า "พับบลิช เอเชีย 2009" จะย้ายไปประชุมที่เมืองเชนไน ของประเทศอินเดียในเดือนกันยายนแทน


แถลงการณ์ของไอเอฟอาร์เอระบุว่า การตัดสินใจย้ายสถานที่จัดการประชุมเป็นผลมาจากสถานการณ์ในกรุงเทพฯ ที่ทำให้หลายประเทศจำกัดการเดินทางมายังประเทศไทย รวมถึงการเกิดวิกฤติเศรษฐกิจด้วย

นายสุเมธ สุทัศน์ ณ อยุธยา กรรมการผู้จัดการ บริษัท ครีเอทีฟเดสติเนชั่น แมเนจเม้นท์ ในฐานะนายกสมาคมส่งเสริมการประชุมนานาชาติไทย (ทิก้า) เปิดเผยว่า รายได้ของตลาดการจัดประชุมสัมมนา นิทรรศการ และการท่องเที่ยวเพื่อเป็นรางวัล (ไมซ์) ปีนี้ น่าจะหายไป 20,000 ล้านบาท หรือ 30% ของรายได้ปีที่ผ่านมา เนื่องจากตลาดไมซ์ เผชิญปัจจัยลบอย่างต่อเนื่อง เริ่มตั้งแต่เศรษฐกิจโลกชะลอตัว ปัญหาความวุ่นวายในประเทศ ที่ทำให้ผู้จัดงานประชุม สัมมนายกเลิก หรือเลื่อนการจัด และล่าสุดยังมีปัญหาไข้หวัดใหญ่เม็กซิโกระบาด มาให้กังวล เพราะหากมีการระบาดมากในต่างประเทศ อาจทำให้คนในแต่ละประเทศหยุดเดินทาง

นายริชาร์ด กริฟส์ ผู้จัดการทั่วไป โรงแรม แกรนด์ ไฮแอท เอราวัณ กรุงเทพฯ กล่าวว่า จะรุกดึงลูกค้าตลาดไมซ์ คนไทยเที่ยวในประเทศ และตลาดเอเชียมากขึ้น เพราะมีแนวโน้มเติบโตดี น่าจะทดแทนตลาดระยะไกล อย่าง อเมริกา และยุโรป ที่หดหายไป เพราะได้รับผลกระทบจากเศรษฐกิจได้ โดยล่าสุดได้ทุ่มงบ 150 ล้านบาท เปิดตัว “เดอะ แคมปัส” เป็นสถานที่จัดงานรูปแบบใหม่ภายในโรงแรม ภายใต้แนวคิดให้ผู้จัดงานได้นึกถึงบรรยากาศ เก่า ๆ ในรั้วมหาวิทยาลัย.

TCEB goes green

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has kicked off the "Go Green Exhibition" campaign, which will integrate private and government sectors in promoting the exhibition industry sustainable development.

A number of 15 organisations have already pledged to participate the campaign, which highlights cleaner technology and energy conservation.


Supawan Teerarat, director of Exhibition Department and acting president of TCEB, said that corporate social responsibility (CSR) particularly 'Green' concept is one of the key marketing strategies to proceed environmental friendly practice as one of the major factors in the new era operations and business practices.


"TCEB initiates "Go Green Exhibition" to encourage exhibition organisers or entrepreneurs to apply clean technology to their business and utilise all resources and energy most effectively."


The campaign will strengthen Thailand's position as the global exhibition host country in this region.

Three Marketing Pushes to Attract Business Events

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) updates Thailand at present reassuring confidence in Thailand as a dynamic and motivational business event destination in Asia by unveiling three key strategic initiatives.

Starting from the marketing campaign, “Meetings More Memorable and Meetings Plus” target smaller groups of 25-50 delegates from long-haul markets by offering value added golf, spa, welcome receptions and cultural shows.

Secondly, a new “MICE Thailand cluster marketing drive” will aggressively promote the advantages of holding events in five distinct geographical areas of Thailand: Bangkok/Pattaya, Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, Nakon Ratchasima/Khon Kaen, Cha-am/Hua Hin, and Phuket/Krabi/Phangnga. To support the initiative, TCEB has produced a new eye-catching 174-page “Venue Variety” directory with full information about Thailand business event facilities in each location.

Thirdly, TCEB will emphasize testimonials from organizations with first-hand experience of holding recent business events in Thailand. The emphasis on building trust via testimonials is part of TCEB’s “Thailand Moving Forward” campaign under the government policy which the Prime Minister, H.E. Abhisit Vejjajiva has endorsed the TCEB to exclusively promote Thailand MICE industry.”

Details on the three initiatives were revealed to media at IMEX 2009 in Frankfurt, a specialist event for the global business event industry which has attracted 3,500 exhibitors from 150 countries.

Attending IMEX, TCEB’s Senior Manager for meetings and incentives, Mr Puripan Bunnag, gave details to media and industry delegates. He said: “The initiatives have been launched to rebuild confidence, add real value to meetings and incentives clients, and give assurances to event organisers who are considering Thailand again.”

As part of a broad ranging update about Thailand, Mr Puripan told media at IMEX that new laws and safeguards were in place to protect the country’s airports and meeting venues. “New insurance policies in place for all international visitors should give business event organisers and tourists additional peace of mind,” he said.

TCEB now estimates that the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry in Thailand will bring in 41 billion baht (US$1.24 billion) this year and attract half a million participants.[/QUOTE]

High hopes for 'Made in Thailand' fair

The Commerce Ministry next month will host a mega trade fair called "Made in Thailand 2009" to stimulate growth in three dimensions - by promoting domestic spending, through exports and by promoting local enterprises.

The fair is expected to generate at least Bt5 billion in immediate sales. The fair will be at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani from July 3-12.

Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai said that more than 1.5 million Thai and foreign visitors are expected to attend the 10-day event.

Porntiva said that the ministry has continuously held or joined trade fairs to stimulate domestic spending and help local enterprises showcase their goods.

Under the theme "One-stop Shopping in Asia", thousands of foreign buyers are expected to attend the fair. Porntiva said that more than 500 buyers from Asean, South Africa, Europe and the Middle East have already confirmed their attendance at the show.

More than 5,000 Thai enterprises will exhibit their products at the fair, with exhibition areas of 100,000 square metres.

The fair will also help promote local small and medium-sized enterprises to show their products at an international showcase. Export goods, One Tambon One Product items, and food and other daily necessities will be sold at discount at the fair.

Rachane Potjanasuntorn, director-general of the Export Promotion Department, said that the government's international fairs helped pave the way for local SMEs to go international.


He said that since many SMEs were unable to attend overseas trade fairs, the international showcase held in the country will help promote local SMEs to foreign buyers.

Minister upbeat on success of Propack Asia 2009

Industry Minister Charnchai Chairungrueng is convinced that the current Propack Asia 2009 fair will give a further boost to the Thai packaging industry, whose market value is about Bt500 billion.

"Propack Asia 2009, which has drawn 785 exhibitors from 39 countries, should generate sales of about Bt3 billion during the fair and an additional Bt10 billion after it ends," he said in his opening speech yesterday.

The four-day fair, organised by Bangkok Exhibition Service, runs until Saturday at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre. It is the largest international processing, filling and packaging technology show in Asia.

David Aitken, managing director of Bangkok Exhibition Service, said yesterday that local and international exhibitors were parading a great deal of advanced industrial technology at the show.

The event this year focuses on energy-saving and environmental-friendliness in the processing, filling and packaging needs of the frozen food, seafood, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and cosmetics industries.

Local exhibitor Sripipat Engineering expected sales of Bt10 million from the fair, at which it is exhibiting new machinery. The company also participated last year.

Sripipat general manager Nattaporn Sadoyou said the company was introducing two new machines at the event, targeting food manufacturers. It also offers a "buy one machine, get one machine free" promotion for many of its products at the fair.

Seventy per cent of its customers are local firms, and the rest international businesses.

She said the company hoped to acquire new customers during Propack Asia 2009, particularly from Vietnam, Burma and Malaysia.

Government pledges to support convention sector

The government will extend more help to the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) to promote the local meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (Mice) market.

The bureau has set a target of at least 2 billion baht in revenues and 1 million visitors from Mice activities this year.

M.R. Disnadda Diskul, the TCEB chairman, said it had three strategies to achieve the target. They are a direct-to-target approach such as corporate familiarisation trips, door-to-door sales pitches and domestic Mice campaigns.

Yesterday, the "Meet in Thailand: Prosperous Thailand" campaign was opened to encourage both public and private organisations to stage more meetings and seminars within the country.Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who presided over the launch of the campaign, also reaffirmed that the government would encourage state agencies to have more local seminars and meetings.

"All government agencies and private firms can take part in helping revive the economy," he said. "This will not only generate income within the country but also provide an opportunity to sustain economic growth."

In early January, the cabinet passed several stimulus measures to help spur domestic tourism. For the Mice industry, it said that private organisations could offset the expense of accommodation and venue rentals against their annual tax payments at the rate of 200%, if they staged seminars or meetings locally.

The TCEB expects domestic Mice activities to generate 24 billion baht from 8 million travellers in the next 16 months if everybody co-operates.

M.R. Disnadda said any government agency and private company wishing to hold a seminar in the same place could jointly plan their schedules and activities such as air ticket bookings. This could also increase their bargaining power.

Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, the TCEB director for government and corporate affairs, said the government was a key player in the domestic Mice market. The government organises seminars and training for about 2-3 million officials every year, at about 2,000 baht per head with each trip lasting two days.

The TCEB has also produced a book, 32 Routes for Meeting in Thailand: Prosperous Thailand, to introduce various tourist destinations.

Joining up to boost MICE

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and Chulalongkorn University's Unisearch signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday to jointly help improve the country's knowledge base and strengthen competitiveness of the conventions sector. TCEB chairman MR Disnadda Diskul said Unisearch would help create a strategic plan regarding cooperation to promote inbound international conventions with a strong focus on academic excellence.

"This is in line with the TCEB's foremost mission of promoting Thailand as Asia's preferred destination for MICE [meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions]," he said.

He added that the bureau was supporting the bidding and organisation of more than 100 international conventions in Thailand despite negative factors such as the global downturn and swine-flu pandemic, which has substantially affected the MICE industry across the world.

However, Thailand is still widely received and has won bids to host up to 18 out of the 20 international events announced this year, and this alliance with further enhance the Kingdom's strength as a bidder, Disnadda said.

MICE has proved to be a lucrative industry injecting significant revenue into the Thai economy. In addition, the TCEB is confident that this cooperation will enhance its operation and help boost Thailand's MICE business by as much as 20 per cent next year, with expected revenue of Bt41 billion.

According to Prof Dr Pirom Kamolratanakul, Chulalongkorn University's president, Unisearch was founded with the intent to build Thailand's body of knowledge and intellectual property.

It provides academic services, training and consultancy across a wide range of fields and disciplines. Unisearch also focuses on research and organises regular academic meetings and conventions at both the national and international levels.

"The two parties will take part in the bidding process for hosting four major events annually with each attracting 300 to 1,000 participants," Pirom said.

ผลสรุปของ ICCA ปี 2551 สิงคโปร์ ศูนย์ประชุมหรือคอนเวนชั่นสิงคโปร์รับเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดทั้งหมด 118 อีเวนต์ สูงกว่าไทยยังเป็นรองได้รับเลือกเป็นสถานที่จัดงานรวม 95 อีเวนต์ ปี 2552-2553 โอกาสพลิกกลับมาเป็นของเรา เพราะจุดแข็งเรื่องพันธมิตร ความคุ้มค่าเงิน ความ หลากหลายของสถานที่ท่องเที่ยว สะท้อนให้เห็นภายใน 3-5 ปีข้างหน้า ภารกิจอันท้าทายนี้จะประสบความสำเร็จได้

ธุรกิจไมซ์โคม่า ครึ่งปีร่วง40% หดกว่า3หมื่นล.

นางมาลินี กิตะพาณิชย์ ผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายการประชุมและการท่องเที่ยวเพื่อเป็นรางวัล สำนักงานส่งเสริมการจัดประชุมและนิทรรศการ (สสปน.) เปิดเผยว่า สถานการณ์ของธุรกิจจัดประชุมและสัมมนา (ไมซ์) ของไทยอยู่ในขั้นสาหัส โดยครึ่งปีแรกลดลงกว่า 20% จากปีก่อนและทุกปีเติบโตเฉลี่ยถึง 20% เท่ากับลดลงกว่า 40% เนื่องจากสภาพเศรษฐกิจเป็นหลัก ส่วนปัญหาการเมืองและไข้หวัด 2009 มีผลบ้าง ตอนนี้ สสปน.ลดเป้ารายได้จากเดิม 77,000 ล้านบาท เหลือ 41,000 ล้านบาท

อย่างไรก็ดี สถานการณ์ถึงจุดต่ำสุดแล้ว และ สสปน.พยายามดูแลงานในครึ่งปีหลัง ทั้งงาน IT&CMA และ Habitat รวมทั้งเจ้าภาพดูแลธุรกิจไมซ์ในจังหวัดที่มีศักยภาพสูง แบ่งเป็น 5 กลุ่ม คือ 1.กรุงเทพมหานคร-พัทยา 2.หัวหิน-ชะอำ 3.ภูเก็ต กระบี่ พังงา 4.ขอนแก่น นครราชสีมา 5.เชียงใหม่-เชียงราย เพื่อเตรียมพร้อมเมื่อกลับเข้าสู่ภาวะปกติ

นอกจากนี้ สสปน.จับมือพันธมิตร 5 องค์กร ได้แก่ การท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย (ททท.) สภาอุตสาหกรรมท่องเที่ยวของประเทศไทย (TCT) สมาคมส่งเสริมการประชุมนานาชาติไทย (Tica) สมาคมธุรกิจสร้างสรรค์การจัดงาน (EMA) และสมาคมการตลาดแห่งประเทศไทย (MAT) ตั้งคณะกรรมการที่ปรึกษาสำหรับการจัดงานธุรกิจเชิงสร้างสรรค์ร่วมกัน เพื่อฟื้นฟูภาพลักษณ์และยกระดับการจัดงานธุรกิจเชิงสร้างสรรค์สู่เวทีโลก โดยแผนงานแรกคือ การจัดงานประกวดธุรกิจเชิงสร้างสรรค์ หรือธุรกิจออร์แกไนเซอร์ระดับประเทศไทย เพื่อดึงดูดกลุ่มลูกค้าจากทั่วโลก ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มกำลังซื้อสูงเข้ามาจัดงานเพิ่มยอดใช้จ่ายในประเทศสูงขึ้น 20% จากวันละ 12,000 บาท เป็น 14,000 บาท.

นายสรรเสริญ เงารังษี ผู้อำนวยการภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออก การท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย (ททท.) เปิดเผยว่า วันที่ 24 กรกฎาคมนี้ นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ นายกรัฐมนตรี จะเป็นประธานเปิดการประชุมสมาชิกสมาคมตระกูลแซ่อาเซียนบวก 4 จีน ฮ่องกง ไต้หวัน มาเก๊า โดยมีตัวแทนจาก แซ่ต่างๆ จากทุกประเทศเข้าร่วมกว่า 600 คน ที่โรงแรมรามาดา พลาซ่า แม่น้ำ กรุงเทพฯ เพื่อเชื่อมความสัมพันธ์ด้านการท่องเที่ยว วัฒนธรรม และแลกเปลี่ยนการค้าระหว่างกันให้แน่นแฟ้นมากยิ่งขึ้น

เนื่องจากทั้งอาเซียนบวก 4 ประเทศ ปัจจุบันและอนาคตเป็นศูนย์กลางการเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจมี นักท่องเที่ยวเดินทางแลกเปลี่ยนกันปีละเกือบ 1,000 ล้านคน โดยเฉพาะจีนเป็นตลาดหลักของไทยเดินทาง เข้ามาท่องเที่ยวปีละ 1 ล้านคน

ขณะนี้ชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีนได้เป็นศูนย์กลางจัดตั้งสหสมาคมตระกูลแซ่แห่งประเทศไทย โดยมีสมาชิกรวมกันมากถึง 64 สมาคม ระหว่างที่ไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดประชุมใหญ่อาเซียนปี 2552 นี้ จึงเป็นโอกาสอันดีของรัฐบาลมีนโยบายให้เชิญตระกูลแซ่อาเซียนทั้งหมดมาหารือไปพร้อมกัน โดยมีนายกฯอภิสิทธิ์และเอกอัครราชทูตสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีนกล่าวสุนทรพจน์แลกเปลี่ยนความเห็นกับผู้นำสมาชิกทั้งเพื่อกระชับความสัมพันธ์และการสนับสนุนเศรษฐกิจด้านต่างๆ ร่วมกันอย่างต่อเนื่องในระยะยาว

และต้นเดือนสิงหาคมนี้ นายชุมพล ศิลปอาชา รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการท่องเที่ยวและกีฬา จะไปเปิดสำนักงาน ททท.ใหม่ในมหานครเซี่ยงไฮ้เพิ่มอีกแห่งเพื่อสานต่อความร่วมมือด้านการค้าและการท่องเที่ยว

Thailand as the host of IFALPA Annual Conference 2011

1 June 2009, at THAI Head office, Captain Saranphol Bhoullasiri, President of the THAI Pilots Association (THAIPA), Air Chief Marshal Narongsak Sangapong, THAI Acting President, Mr. Veerasak Kowsurat, Chairman of Tourism Authority of Thailand and Ms. Suprabha Moleeratanond, Director of Conventions, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) held a press conference to announce Thailand as the host of IFALPA (the International Federation of Airline Pilots Associations) Annual Conference in 2011.

This year (2009) Thai Pilots Association and Cyprus Pilots Association made a formal bid and held hospitality to earn their respective votes. Much to Thai Pilots Association’s delight, the attendees chose Thailand during the final day voting after they were convinced by Thai Pilots Association's readiness and strong intent to host the Annual Conference between 8th -12th April 2011 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai. The Thai Pilots Associations received cooperation from TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand), TCEB (Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau), and TICA (Thailand Incentive Convention Association) for their help in securing the vote for Thailand from the hospitality and bidding process as well as the work to be done until the end of the 2011 Annual Conference.

Captain Saranphol Bhoullasiri, President of THAIPA, on behalf of all Thai Pilots, was very pleased with the outcome of the vote for Thailand and is confident that the 2011 Annual Conference will be a success. THAIPA was founded more than 20 years ago by Thai Airways International Company pilots as a channel for communication between colleagues in the same profession. As the aviation industry in Thailand grew at a rapid rate, THAIPA grew also and had evolved over the years to become Thailand's professional pilots association. At present, THAIPA has more than 1000 members, consisting of pilots from Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, and Thai Air Asia.

THAIPA represents Thailand as one of the 102 countries as a member of the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations (IFALPA) with more than 100,000 pilots worldwide. IFALPA's role is to act as the “Global Voice of Airline Pilots” at all major aviation forums with priority concern for safety. Every year, IFALPA holds an Annual Pilots Conference, which member associations to become host on rotation. Two years in advance at every annual conference, host carrier is selected by majority vote. Last year, during the 2008 Annual Conference in Mexico City, Mexico, member associations nominated Thailand to host the 2011 Annual Conference.

THAIPA intends to celebrate the King's 84th Birthday in the year 2011 by commemorating His Majesty’s work and dedication to the Kingdom. Moreover, the year 2011 marks the 100th Anniversary of aviation in the Kingdom of Thailand. In 1911, or exactly 100 years ago, when this conference will take place, “Wanda” the Henri Farman IV plane took to the skies over the Kingdom of Thailand. His Majesty King Rama VI, sent three army officers to France to train as pilots of the new fleet of aircraft. THAIPA recognizes the importance of hosting the 2011 Annual Conference as a means of generating revenue for Thailand's economy and as an aviation hub of South East Asia. With more than 600 IFALPA members attending the conference it is expected that over 60 million baht will be spent during the conference.

Air Chief Marshal Narongsak Sangapong, THAI Acting President, mentioned that the company supports THAIPA fully and cooperates in various technical arenas as well as community events. Recently, in conjunction with the Airports of Thailand, Thai Airways International and THAIPA's technical committee conducted a towing of an A-340 at Suvarnabhumi Airport to simulate visual from the pilot's view of sitemarkings and signage. Other community events include sponsoring the Pilots Seminar, open to the general public for those interested in the commercial pilot profession, with an opportunity to visit THAI’s flight simulators. In addition, for years THAI has sponsored THAIPA's activities that include flights for children on Children's Day. At the 2011 Annual Conference to be held in Chiang Mai, THAI will serve as a communication channel between pilots in technical and safety aspects. THAI will provide 500 discount airfares for conference attendees. Reduce fares and special Royal Orchid Tour offers for family members will help promote tourism and generate a positive outlook on Thailand for accompanying family members, and the international media.

Mr. Veerasak Kowsurat, Chairman of TAT, said that TAT supports THAIPA in hosting the 66th IFALPA Annual Conference in 2011. It is an honor and privilege to host such an internationally renowned conference, which will help to boost Thailand's tourism and generate revenue to the Thai economy. With the international aviation community traveling to Chiang Mai for the conference, Bangkok's aviation hub status will be emphasized, as well as Thailand's ability to host such major international events and conferences. Hosting the conference will not only help to promote travel to Thailand, but it is also in line with the policy to target MICE group of travelers, which have a high spending power. In addition, Chiang Mai's popularity as an excellent tourist destination with abundant nature and northern hospitality will be known worldwide.

Ms. Suprabha Moleeratanond, Director of Conventions, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), states that TCEB has been cooperated in supporting THAIPA since the early stage of planning for the bidding, and it has continued giving support to both state and private sectors until the conference ends with success. Thailand's readiness to host the 66th Annual Conference was conveyed to the IFALPA member associations in all aspects, including transportation, logistics, conference hotel venue, as well as the Thai people's hosting ability. In conjunction with THAIPA, the planning for bidding process started since last year, which included actual conference site visit in Chiang Mai with IFALPA Executive Board Representative. During the 2009 Annual Conference in Auckland, New Zealand, information booth and hospitality event, implemented to gain the votes of the attendees, proved to be a huge success. Within the next two years until the 2011 Annual Conference, TCEB will continue to support THAIPA in every possible way in order to make the conference a successful one. TCEB's goal is to encourage as many attendees and accompanying persons as possible to travel to Thailand and estimates that no less than 600 persons will attend which equals to approximately 60 million Baht in revenue.

Mr. Sumate Sudasna, Managing Director Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA), states that TICA as a non-profit organization acts as the liaison between state agencies, namely TAT and Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, and private sectors (namely hotels and event/exhibition organizers) with the ultimate goal of establishing Thailand as the number one destination for conference/exhibition on an international scale. At present, TICA is working closely with TCEB in pushing for market share both internationally and domestically. Also, it is playing the role of advisor to various capable organizations and associations who intend to host conferences/exhibitions in Thailand. Since THAIPA's decision to host the 2011 IFALPA Conference, TICA supplied information on the hotels capable of handling the event in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai. In the past year, TICA accompanied THAIPA and IFALPA Executive Board representative to inspect the hotels and venues proposed in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. In the end, IFALPA chose Shangri-La Hotel in Chiang Mai as official hotel venue for the 66th Annual Conference in the event that Thailand won the vote for 2011.

In two years time during which THAIPA has to organize and prepare all aspects for the Conference, TICA will be a helping hand, assisting on all matters involved including the selection of a company as Professional Convention Organizer and other related services and companies required, with the success of the Annual Conference in mind and also to reach the goal of generating income for Thailand's economy.

สิงคโปร์ฉวยไทยไม่สงบชิงไมซ์

นายสุเมธ สุทัศน์ ณ อยุธยา นายกสมาคมส่งเสริมการประชุมนานาชาติ (ไทย) หรือทิก้า เปิดเผยว่า ขณะนี้ประเทศคู่แข่งที่อยู่ในภูมิเดียวกับประเทศไทย เช่น สิงคโปร์ เริ่มนำจุดอ่อนเรื่องปัญหาการเมืองภายในประเทศไม่สงบมาเป็นกลยุทธ์การขาย ส่งผลให้การเจรจาเพื่อดึงการประชุมระดับนานาชาติของประเทศไทยมีความยากลำบากมากขึ้น เนื่องจากนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติกลุ่มจัดการประชุมสัมมนาและนิทรรศการ (ไมซ์) ไม่เชื่อมั่นด้านความปลอดภัย

ทั้งนี้ นักท่องเที่ยวกลุ่มไมซ์และการเดินทางท่องเที่ยวเพื่อรางวัล เป็นตลาดที่มีความอ่อนไวต่อทุกสถานการณ์ ซึ่งภาพการเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นระยะ ทำให้นักท่องเที่ยวไม่กล้าเดินทางมาใช้สถานที่ในประเทศไทยสำหรับจัดประชุมหรือจัดนิทรรศการ

“ปัญหาใหญ่ที่เกิดขึ้นในขณะนี้ ทำให้นักท่องเที่ยวไม่กล้าตัดสินใจมา ทั้งจากการเมืองไทยไม่สงบ ขณะที่สภาวะเศรษฐกิจโลกชะลอตัว และการระบาดของไข้หวัดใหญ่ 2009 ทุกประเทศได้รับผลกระทบเหมือนกันหมด จึงไม่ใช่สาเหตุที่เป็นข้อได้เปรียบหรือเสียเปรียบ” นายสุเมธ กล่าว

นอกจากนี้ ผู้ประกอบการท่องเที่ยวยังอยู่ระหว่างการเฝ้าติดตามความเคลื่อนไหวของกลุ่มเสื้อแดง ซึ่งเตรียมยื่นทูลเกล้าฯ ถวายฎีกาขออภัยโทษให้กับ พ.ต.ท.ทักษิณ ชินวัตร อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี ซึ่งเชื่อว่าจะทำให้การเมืองไทยมีจุดเปลี่ยนอีกครั้ง โดยจากปัจจัยลบต่างๆ ที่เกิดขึ้น คาดว่า จะทำให้กลุ่มไมซ์เดินทางมาประเทศไทย ลดลง 3 แสนคน เหลือเพียง 5 แสนคน เมื่อเทียบกับปีที่ผ่านมา 8 แสนคน สร้างรายได้ 4 หมื่นล้านบาท

นายสุเมธ กล่าวว่า การร่างแผนงานวาระท่องเที่ยวแห่งชาติ รัฐบาลควรบรรจุเรื่องการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวอย่างยั่งยืน เพื่อให้ประเทศไทยพัฒนาอย่างมีทิศทางและเกิดความต่อเนื่อง โดยต้องเร่งผลักดันให้แผนการทำงานสามารถดำเนินการได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรม

MICE sector of tourism industry rebounds

After the disastrous fallout from the brief closure of Suvarnabhumi Airport late last year, the MICE industry is rebounding with 378 international events held here this year generating more than Bt7.1 billion in revenue.

And 76 events are committed from 2010-2014 worth Bt5.6 billion, according to a Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) report.

Supawan Teerarat, TCEB's exhibition director and acting president, said yesterday the MICE (meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition) industry has contributed Bt278 billion to the country in the six years since the TCEB's inception.

Highlighted international events for the next five years are the UNICITY Global Convention in 2010, the 38th annual meeting of the TunNelling and Underground Space Association, the World Pilot Association meeting in 2011, the Rotary annual meeting in 2012, the 25th Asian International Stamp Exhibition in 2010 and the World Stamp Exhibition in 2013.

For the domestic market, the bureau this year is continuing with the "Meet in Thailand, Prosperous Thailand" project to help revive the economy.

The campaign is aimed at promoting and supporting both the public and private sectors to organise meetings and seminars in the country, spreading income within the economic system.

TCEB expects more than 8 million participants and Bt24 billion in revenue.

TCEB is also developing some cities such as Phuket and Chiang Mai into MICE cities after succeeding in teaming up with Pattaya City to jointly develop marketing, infrastructure and human resources in preparation for the growing MICE market in the future.
