The NFC South is what,2-3 years old?The NFC East has been around since the 70's maybe longer.
The last Super Bowl the Cowboys "won" was in the 90's.No one will ever convince me O'Donnell didn't take a payoff to blow that game.Thigpen was wide open on both passes the SOB threw right to Woodson.The Steelers outplayed them in every phase of the game. The Panthers weren't even around last time the Giants or Skins won a SB. Like any sport/business the NFL is all about "what have you done for me lately". During the Panthers Super Bowl run Madden and Summerall called the playoff games like they had money on the other teams. Again we may all be singing the blues come January.But the smack talk is fun! |

bucs and panthers are almost statistically identical right now. i know all that goes out the window come game day but i think its a good bet this'll be a brutal game (that the panthers win)

Dallas outgained them on the ground. Pittsburgh had them in the air. Both played well on special teams. Pitt had more total yards though. I fail to see how Pitt outplayed them in every phase of the game. Dallas was playing zone baiting O'Donnell to make a mistake. He did, twice. He simply didn't see Larry Brown especially on the clinching INT. What has the NFC South done for us lately? Right now, the NFC East is the more impressive division, period. |

Until recent years the Falcons,Saints and Bucs could barely be considered NFL teams.
There is a really good article at Panthers.com regarding the NFC South,it's 6 years since the realignment,my how time has flown!I was mistaken about how old the division was.Check it out if ya'll like.It most certainly is relevant to division rivalries and this heated debate we have going.LOL! I'll give ya the East has a long tradition,is old school in many ways(which I love) and the combined regular season record is better at this point.However I still say the Eagles and Cowboys are chokers.Look at how they've done in the post season in recent years.Once the post season has begun the regular season doesn't mean squat. I still say O'Donnell took a payoff to blow the SB.It was way too obvious to me and the people I was watching the game with.None of them are Steelers fans.I am and they were giving me the "what's wrong with your QB" business.I was at a loss.Funny how O'Donnell was on another team the very next year.Terry Bradshaw had a very interesting take on that whole deal. The man has 4 SB rings and knows what he's talking about. I still say they outplayed and outhustled Dallas the whole game.They certainly showed more heart and left everything on the field.Can Dallas say that? |

Um, yes. they won the game. They made the plays when it mattered. They executed down the stretch. Something the Pittsburgh Steelers cannot say they did in SB XXX. O'donnell wasn't paid off. That's just something an all around Cowboy hater would say. He simply faced a confused scheme and paid dearly for it.

[QUOTE=WeimieLvr;26530540]Some Falcons "NFL team-worthy" seasons:
1971...3rd, NFC West 8-6 1972...2nd, NFC West 7-7 1973...2nd, NFC West 9-5 1977...2nd, NFC West 7-7 1978...2nd, NFC West 9-7 Won Wild Card Playoffs, Eagles, 14-13 Lost Divisional Playoffs, Cowboys, 27-20 1980...1st, NFC West 12-4 Lost Divisional Playoffs, Cowboys, 30-27 1982...2nd, NFC West 5-4 (strike season) Lost First Round, Vikings, 30-24 1986...3rd, NFC West 8-8 1991...2nd, NFC West 10-6 Won Wild Card Playoffs, Saints, 27-20 Lost Divisional Playoffs, Redskins, 24-7 1994...3rd, NFC West 7-9 1995...2nd, NFC West 9-7 Lost Wild Card Playoffs, Packers, 37-20 1998...1st, NFC West 14-2 Won Divisional Playoffs, 49ers, 20-18 Won Conference Championship, Vikings, 30-27 Lost Super Bowl XXXIII, Broncos, 34-19 I remember those years.I'm 43 and have been an avid football fan my whole life practically.In the 70's The NFC West was a weak division and a mediocre record would garner a 2nd or 3rd place finish(that's out of 4 teams mind you). The Falcons had some good years periodically.But the common denominator in your statistics is the word lost. Like what the Panthers did today,they lost.Period. |

I guess the Dolphins are not back.
Just last week, there was a silly column in the Orlando Sentinel about the Dolphins had suddenly vaulted into prominance over the Bucs and Jags. In reality, they're the third-best NFL team in the state right now. |

Nobody said the Falcon's history in the NFL is stellar. But they have had plenty of decent seasons and can be considered an NFL team. |

Great win by the Saints over the Raiders. The half time game was also pretty good.
