Destined to be Melbourne's new tallest, Australia 108 (319m/100 levels/1047 feet), has sold 85% of its 1105 apartments, and demolition has begun on the site in Melbourne's Southbank. Melbourne's current tallest, Eureka (297 metres/974 feet), is opposite.

And if you're quick, the display office told us today that there was one 2 bedroom\2 bathroom\1 car space still available on the 67th floor for the equivalent of 500,000 pounds Sterling.

A builder for another of Melbourne's latest crop of talls, Aurora Melbourne Central (271 metres\90 levels\889 feet), will be appointed by the end of February. The 941 apartments and 228 serviced apartments are virtually 100% sold. This will be the only apartment building with direct underground access to a major subway station, with a Malaysian style hawkers market connecting it to one of Melbourne's largest multi level shopping malls.

Eastern37 posted these renders, so we hope it is glass on the base too.

Yes, all signs point to glass being installed on the concrete base. It is currently being painted black, so as to match the colour of the rest of the towers glass. Presumably it will be one of the last stages of construction.

Gawd, Melbourne is doing so well in terms of its skyscrapers. Montreal has about the same population (though Melbourne is maybe 12% more folks,) and we aren't even close. lol

Melbourne has a hot spot in the northern CBD with 6 substantial residential towers either under construction or certain to go ahead. They are

1. Aurora Melbourne Central (271 metres\889 feet)
2. Victoria One (241 metres\791 feet)
3. Vision (226 metres\741 feet)
4. Light House (218 metres\715 feet)
5. EQ (203 metres\666 feet)
6. Empire Melbourne (182 metres\597 feet)

Thanks to Laurence Dragomir of UrbanMelbourne for the following brilliant render

1. Aurora. This one has the furtherest to go, with an 8 level car park currently occupying the site, but it has sold out.

If anyone is wondering why they don't have below ground car parking, 4 of the 6 towers are on Elizabeth Street, with the remaining 2 just half a block off Elizabeth. These are some images from February, 1972, when Nature used a rainstorm to return Elizabeth Street to its origins....a creek.

With the development of Melbourne's Docklands opening up large sites close to the central business district that are ideal for campus style offices, Melbourne has seen very few new high rise office projects in recent years. In the 90's, several 200 plus metre office buildings redefined the skyline. The large Collins Square project has more than 200,000 square metres of office space (2.15 million square feet), with Tower 4 and 5 currently underway. Tower 4 (the KPMG building) is 145 metres/38 levels/476 feet.

The renders for the Orbis Apartments in South Melbourne looked too good to be true, but the reality is looking good. South Melbourne is an inner city suburb with tree lined streets with old workers cottages and grand mansions, many of them with the beautiful wrought iron lace work for which New Orleans is famous.

Tower Melbourne, 69 levels/226 metres/741 feet, has been held up in the courts for more than a year when the developer of the neighbouring site raised objections. The court dismissed the objections this week, so hopefully demolition of the office block currently on the site can recommence. Thank you Grollo for posting render.
