The arena is situated on the Nemunas Island in the Nemunas River, which falls into the area of the historic New Town and is in close proximity to the Old Town. Basketball is considered to be 'the second religion' in Lithuania. With Kaunas being the capital of sports in the country, "Žalgirio" Arena is the temple of basketball of Lithuania. "Žalgirio" Arena is the biggest indoor basketball arena in the Baltic states and 16th biggest in Europe. Very nice project! Makes me think that Kaunas will probably be one of the team awarded an NBA Europe Franchise if they ask for it. Very nice location too!

Will Lithuania attempt to get teams into the Kontinental Hockey League? Minsk and Riga both will have sides.
Lithuania has bigger populations and better business backing that Riga and Minsk in theory. |
