The arena is located in Kaunas, Lithuania, which is the second largest city in the country with approximately 310 thousand inhabitants. The arena is situated on the Nemunas Island in the Nemunas River, which falls into the area of the historic New Town and is in close proximity to the Old Town.

Basketball is considered to be 'the second religion' in Lithuania. With Kaunas being the capital of sports in the country, "Žalgirio" Arena is the temple of basketball of Lithuania.

"Žalgirio" Arena is the biggest indoor basketball arena in the Baltic states and 16th biggest in Europe. It replaced the Kaunas Sports Hall, which was the first purposely built indoor basketball arena in Europe when first opened in 1939.

Very nice project! Makes me think that Kaunas will probably be one of the team awarded an NBA Europe Franchise if they ask for it. Very nice location too!

Screw NBA!!!!

A decade or so, and Euroleage will give a very serious fight, which NBA might just well loose.

Will Lithuania attempt to get teams into the Kontinental Hockey League? Minsk and Riga both will have sides.

Lithuania has bigger populations and better business backing that Riga and Minsk in theory.

In terms of competition for elite talent? Shit, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

GG Olympiacos...83 mil USD for Kobe for 3 years?! That's some serious coin.
