I probably think the long-term plans could see the Gold Coast Light Rail system extended to Helensvale and Coolangatta... somehow. At present, it's best to stick witht he stretch that is already planned.

Those platforms in pedestrian mall are terribly enclosed and cramped. There is no need for an enclosed platform back in that environment. And what are those garden sheds at the platforms ends - bicycle storage? The design looks a bit grim overall. And the tram wouldn't go round that curve at that speed unless it was a Hornby train set!

Western end of Queen St. Tracks being put in place

Further up the street, prep work for the tracks

I had no idea such progress had been made
My family has a house on the Gold Coast (albeit south of the Light Rail area) and I had no idea it was actually being worked on

Yeah it's a really good looking tram, and the colour scheme is great. It'll be interesting to see how it looks with the Translink signage and/or any advertisements.

Surfers Paradise is too coming along quite well

Should look great once streetscaping is done.

The trams are here!

http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/...oast-news.html

THE first Gold Coast tram has been towed along the tracks into the light rail depot after a two hour journey from the Port of Brisbane early this morning.

The tram left the Port around midnight, travelling for two hours down the motorway on a 20-axle truck accompanied by a security escort.

Once on the Coast the tram became the first of 14 to be placed on the yet to be energised tracks on Queen Street, before being towed along by two trucks up through the Wardoo Street intersection and into the Gold Coast light rail depot in Southport.

The tram was one of two which arrived at the Port of Brisbane on Tuesday morning, with the second to be transported to the Coast overnight on Friday.

The trams will commence on-track testing around the first week of October.

The remaining 12 trams will be shipped as completed with the last one expected to arrive in early 2014, ready for operation around June.
