Are there any plans to connect the light rail to the Gold Coast railway line, particularly to Nerang station?

I believe the next stage in planning is to have it extended to Helensvale Station, to the north. Then toward the Airport (OOL), before spurs out to Robina and Nerang.

Video of the Gold Coast light rail on Youtube from July 2014, mostly as a passenger looking out the window:

If it ever makes it out to Helensvale it will be truly useful and get rid of a lot of the Brisbane traffic. Right now it is a great way to get from Broadbeach to Southport. I hate driving in Southport and Surfers is not much better.

Around 18,000-19,000 per day on average (including weekends and public holidays). The weekday count probably exceeds 20,000 easily.

So now Australia has a variety of tramways.

Oldest in Melbourne
Newest in Gold Coast
Returned in Sydney
Heritage in Bendigo

and etc. etc.

- looks really great.

I heard the tram network is partly underground (like Sydney tram). Is it true? Please write some details.

There are small cut and cover sections and a couple of Tunnels through Pyrmont and Glebe I think? I think the Gold Coast has one underground station - not sure which one though.

The northern terminus is below ground level because it basically burrows straight into a small hill with the pre-existing road on top. It is open air on one side. Bus interchange is at street level.

The whole stretch between the last two stations is a big dip, so the "underground" terminus is basically the same height as, or a little higher than, the open ground 100m south.

The underground portion of Sydney tram is just awesome. Note former system was also an underground part.

However, thanks to clear my answer Surfrail. (y)

Gold Coast’s tram is the newest tram system in Oceania and also in South Hemisphere. No doubt the system is more aesthetic than Sydney, especially the colour scheme. It resembled the ‘bumble bee’. The seven coach tram, when turns, oh, it just looks like a ripe banana.

I’ve a question, where is the tram depot situates?

1. The tram depot is between Queen St and Griffith Uni stations (you'll be able to pick it out on recent satellite inagery through Google Earth or the like).

2. The next extension is most likely to be north to the existing Helensvale train station. There are a few options being assessed but it isn't undergoing active procurement yet. We've just had a closely run state election in Queensland with a bit of a surprise result which leaves things somewhat unsettled.

3. One monorail system is in Broadbeach between Jupiters Casino and The Oasis Shopping Centre, the other is located entirely within the grounds of Seaworld. Both are elderly Von Roll type systems and are short one-way loops.

Thank you very much for your answers Surfrail. I know the place where tram depot situates, but I want to know the name of the place, not the location, can you tell me? What is the name of the tram depot? E.g. - Southbank, Kew etc. like Melbourne......
