It is more of a redesign than a replacement.

Remember, this project began as 'The Pinnacle' on the Palm Jumeirah (the Trump Tower is now taking up the plot).

Later, it became a taller version of The Pinnacle known as 'Al Burj' located in Dubai Waterfront (now known as 'Waterfront').

Then there were rumours that Al Burj was moved to an area near Dubai Marina (where Nakheel Tower currently is), with a temporary name of 'Tall Tower'.

Now, the building is known as 'Nakheel Tower.'

Does anyone know one of the most important facts about this building:
Who is the architect?

Buildings are to artwork as architects are to artists. You would never discuss a piece of art without talking about the artist. So, who is the architect for Nakheel Tower?

I really like this design compared to the old nakheel tower design, but I would have prefered it even more if the arches at the top had a tierred effect towards like the burj dubai, it would have looked like a castle reaching towards the sky. Right now it looks slightly overbearing being one massive structure all the way to the top.

After this one, then what will be the next (after 20013)? Will be another one for 2.500 meters tall? I wish in my entirely life, I will never watch its ruin or economically collapsed. Ciao

I don't think so. They are more of a design feature. They look like solar panels but on most of the renders you will see light clearly passing through them and that actually they are somewhat transparent. You could also look at the support of the structure, and see it servers more as a design element rather functional one to carry the needed cables and equipment if they were indeed solar panels. And the place is just awful. A big part of them will always be in the shadow of the tower, another nail in the coffin.

Nakheel company is rich enough to start investing itself. That's why they already can start the ground works. Now they will start searching sponsors and investors.

@dequal, do you not know how the world works?

The developers don't build something just because they can afford it, they build things because it'll generate revenue and profit.

What I'm saying is that investers are LEAVING Dubai, and the world is feeling a global crisis at the moment, who's going to pay for this?

Dubai has a great plan but some things that have come out recently just aren't feasable.

Now we've got

Burj Dubai - 800m

Naheel Harbour Tower - 1,140m

Silk City Kuwait - 1,300m

Mile Tower Saudi - 1,600m

Dubai built the first super tall to get the world's attention, it did, so what is the purpose of this 1,000m new tower? It's not like there isn't enough land at the moment.

Let's also add that Dubai doesn't give out residence permits the way they used to and revoked alot of foreigners promised RPs for buying properties.
