Oh please... they are moving with snail speed at "small" towers like Marina 101 or Princess Tower, not to mention Burj al Alam and Pentominium.

I even suspect that all this bombastic anouncements (and play aroud called "preparation") are made just to show that the real estate is still booming (in this global financiar crisis), to sale what they have really started to construct (buildings 50-100m from the ground).

Since it's made up of 4 towers, wont the inner part of the building, where the 4 towers face each other, be dark with the lack of sunlight? It wouldn't look good inside with artificial lighting would it

I have a question, about whichs answer i am curious.

The forum members, that are registered here, since Burj Dubai was only a proposal. What were your thoughts, about the realisation chances of the tower? Do you also meant it will get never built and has no chance to get reality.

I mean, i can’t believe the pessimistic attitude and that people are more optimistic that a 1km+ tower will be realised in Jeddah. Since Jeddah’s tallest building the "port control tower" is just 131m tall but Dubai in the meantime already built a 720m structure which will rise another 98m (such a tower was nearly visionary 5-10 years ago) and realised projects like the palms reclamation and so on. I am very optimistic, that this tower will be reality in 10-12 years from now. It’s just the fact, that Dubai is creating things most of us has thought, they aren’t possible. And finding buyers for the units in this tower I think it’s not THAT severe, although the financial crisis, which is also a bit hyped. There are still enough rich people that would pay much money just to have one portion of this tower. We can witness in Dubai a total disposal of entire towers which are nowhere that iconic as this in just a few hours/days. So why should it be THAT different with this tower?

So if the proportions are right, we can expect an expansion in height of the tower when or if it gets build.

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but at the official site

http://www.nakheelharbour.com/

You can find loads of information. The height comparisaton also reveals the final height of Burj Dubai:807.7 meters.

Can people stop going on about the global credit crunch, property slow down etc... These problems have no bearing on these projects. Nakheel in particular and other Dubai developers in general do not have to rely on global banks for loans to build things. Nakheel is state owned and is cash rich. Building this tower and the marina complex is comparable with the costs of the Palm Island projects Nakheel is already carrying out. I'm sure that sales of these developments can more than fund this next project. Nakheel does not need significant credit from other sources at this time and by building this in a phases they can fund each subsequent phase from sales of the completed phases. Thus very little investement if any is going to be needed from an banks.

Secondly, although there is a significant downturn in the global property market one section of that market is still very boyant.. that being the highest end properties for the mega rich, Just the sort of people who will be attracted to this sort of development. In any case by the time properties from this development start being completed the property market will certainly have bounced back. Nakheel is involved in long term projects and has a long term view of this market.

Yeah...great tower...this is the real cost to build it.

'We need slaves to build monuments'
It is already home to the world's glitziest buildings, man-made islands and mega-malls - now Dubai plans to build the tallest tower. But behind the dizzying construction boom is an army of migrant labourers lured into a life of squalor and exploitation. Ghaith Abdul-Ahad reports

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008...t.construction

Think of them when you gaze in wonder at Dubai's grubby little secret.

Actually these problems have huge bearing on these projects:

Is true, Nakheel might have the money to build-it. But they also have to SELL-IT!

And the world is (and will be) very "short" on money.

Dubai is not in a galaxy far, far away, is in this tormented, financiar chalanged world.

If world economy is going from bad to worse, it will reach Dubai soon

- price of oil go down
- turism go down
- investments go down
- real estate will go down eventualy...

Unfortunatley we might have to wait for the completion of somme great projects (like Burj al Alam), not to mention this new insane towers (this, and somme other 600-700m) I'm sure thwy will be on hold, or on very slow progress.
