The forum members, that are registered here, since Burj Dubai was only a proposal. What were your thoughts, about the realisation chances of the tower? Do you also meant it will get never built and has no chance to get reality.

I mean, i can’t believe the pessimistic attitude and that people are more optimistic that a 1km+ tower will be realised in Jeddah. Since Jeddah’s tallest building the "port control tower" is just 131m tall but Dubai in the meantime already built a 720m structure which will rise another 98m (such a tower was nearly visionary 5-10 years ago) and realised projects like the palms reclamation and so on. I am very optimistic, that this tower will be reality in 10-12 years from now. It’s just the fact, that Dubai is creating things most of us has thought, they aren’t possible. And finding buyers for the units in this tower I think it’s not THAT severe, although the financial crisis, which is also a bit hyped. There are still enough rich people that would pay much money just to have one portion of this tower. We can witness in Dubai a total disposal of entire towers which are nowhere that iconic as this in just a few hours/days. So why should it be THAT different with this tower?
Hi Germantower

That is a very good question.
Well, i was looking at this forum site when the first plans of Burj Dubai were released. So i have been visiting here all that time (only later i actually joined as a member)
I've followed the burj dubai since it was in the very first stage of design (like a giant piramid shape, first design stage).

I was a bit skeptic. But the foundations are already being made, and the whole burj dubai downtown area was surrounded by this blue fence. (marked as construction site).

Then i knew it was going to be made. And about 6 months to 1 year later it started to rise!!!

So, with this tower. It really seems to go the same way. With the same pace and same style of announcements and re-designs.
The earlier design (as Al-Burj) which has been known for months (year even?) now, was pretty much fantasy.
But with this re-design (just as the first re-design of burj dubai) i believe that this building will be built, just as the Burj Dubai.

That's my two cents

It is Al burj in a way this developed from it, but just to reassure its now called Nakheel Tower.

http://www.xpress4me.com/news/uae/dubai/20009867.html

'A spokesperson with Nakheel confirmed with XPRESS on Sunday that the new structure is the same project known unofficially since last year as the Al Burj tower. The official said that the new tower will not, however, be known under the Al Burj name.

It will be known simply as the Nakheel Tower.'

Dubai is going to bug me a lot with all its stuff!
Who's gonna live there? There will be space enough for the whole world, when all projects are finished!

Hi all.

I can't wait for some floorplans, etc.

Preferably a complete set of blueprints.

I would like to be able to compile a plan like i did for the BD.

I still like this one better, but I might be warming up to the new one after seeing these renders.

Very good and interesting observation. I bet if this tower is built as currently shown, it will be constructed in a manner similar to the Index, with the tower and its four "sub"-towers having no central core. I need to look back at the construction pictures of the Index to refresh my memory of how it was done.

Any idea how far apart is this tower and Burj Dubai?

I wonder what will it be like standing in the middle of the 2 giant and you look left and right...

Wah!!

The tower's site is southwest of the Dubai Marina (Almas Tower, 23 Marina, Torch, Princess Tower, etc).

from al-burg.blogsport website,

thats a good question, but i'm sure the spaces between the 4 towers are enought for natural light to pentrate threw the tower. and i think thats a big possiablity because Nakheel wants to reach the highest LEED certification they can for a building this size

Coolness . If I combined the sections and transitions that's 425 feet or ~130 meters. Not tooooooo far off Ironically I think I also stopped the cylinder at around 900 meters or so for my model.

Well... after fighting with the CryEngine (not so much 3ds Max), I *finally* got the darn thing to cooperate and place itself in the engine next to the former WTC and Burj Dubai.

Another day to tweak the video and it's uploading to YouTube as we speak.

I might as well post now and just say that yes I know the model is very very rough but the CryEngine compared to Max did not like some of the geometry involved and doing textures is fairly difficult so all the towers in the video are clad with a simple steel texture. It beats the black boring look from before IMO.

Again - I would have to spend weeks to get the model to work from Max to Sandbox flawlessly if you want both a fully accurate model in geometry and texture. But for three days straight, I hope you guys do like the video

The difference in scale is just amazing. Not even the height but the bulk...

Definitely will be exciting to see this rise!!
