Why would you not be surprised?
Do you know that only one huge tower (>500m) is properly under construction in Dubai at the moment (by that I mean beyond the early parts of the ground work).

Burj al Alam is having troubles, don't know about the pentominium but really can't see how the numbers will add up, Dubai Towers is supposed to have started groundwork but who knows, will probably be delayed considering 4 or 5 top guys from that company were arrested recently.

make that 2 (>500m) the pentominium is preparing ground works to. the Burj al Alam is waiting for a contractor, which by november will be announced. then they will start construction, but it will take 3 to 4 months till it starts after they announce the contractor. so soon it will be 3

Al Burj (Nakheel Harbour Tower) is an old project, and they will eventually build-it.

Still, I have serious doubts about the recent "rain" of 500-800m proposals.

I suspect that is just a smoke screen, to cover up that real estate market is with problems (like all over the world).

Burj al alam has been at ground work stage for more than a year now and they haven't even done any serious piling. Only a few here and there for some reason.

I just read this thread for the first time...and already preparation is going on! I must say that i'm quite stunned by the pace of construction in Dubai, which is unbelievably fast, faster then anything civilization has seen before...
Just compare this to Frankfurt, where the MT was announced ca. 10 years ago, but still it isn't even approved, and there seems no sign that construction will start in the next years, esp. with the financial crisis we're seeing right now...

Back to this tower, which is, as i understand it, a redesign of the building formerly known as Al Burj (or am i wrong? is this a separate project from the Al Burj? I'm not really clear about that, so if someone could answer me i'd appreciate it a lot )
Anyway, i think that the design is stunning, definitely much better then the old design, which IMO used , and using 4 separate building parts that are connected by skybridges seems to be the best idea for a building this tall , because if it'd be only one building part, the wind resistance would be too high, and i guess the tower would be swanking too much in the wind.

Btw, i don't really think that the current financial crisis will have a high impact on the construction of new highrises in Dubai, since most of the projects in Dubai are built more to impress and to show the aspirations of the Sheiks for Dubai, that means as part of a "grand plan", than just for profit.
Also i believe that the finance-crisis in the USA will actually be good, at least to some extent, for Dubai, because more people, esp. from Asia will invest in Dubai instead of the US, which will for a long time suffer from the consequences of the finance crisis.

If you select High Quality, it'll have enough detail to just make out the altimeter. Looks loads better than the standard video of course.
hey dude, are you planning on uploading the map to crymod or something like it? and you are going to put textures on the buildings?

Dubai already has too much debit, no body knows if the city could come through this financial crisis or not. to build so many supertall towers in desert is against the economic theory and the nature.

Yes, OMH.
The Pinnacle became Al Burj. And now Al Burj has become Nakheel Tower.
