40% say race to build tallest tower is 'inappropriate'

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/53448...ropriate?ln=en

I guess the rest of 60% includes skyscrapercity members.

Reopened the thread. In fairness why is it so difficult. Just avoid stuff like:
- Comparrisons with the USA, or any country for that matter
- General political crap

I don't mind speculation about whether it'll be built, whether the developers will be able to build it, etc. Let's just leave the politics out of it please.

I wonder how long it will take to construct the foundation? Will something this big need some sort of radical new foundation design or just a scaled up typical one?

Difficult to say, for example in the case of Burj Dubai construction (not only foundation but the main structure too), it was the later.

Apparantly will take 3 years for the foundation alone.

In this article is mentioned that Nakheel claims to have the "world's first inner city harbour" with Nakheel Harbour and Tower. That is pure BS, there are inner city harbours in dozens of cities. Someone should sue them for spamming BS like this! It's just getting ridiculous with all these "world's first, highest, biggest, bla bla bla" in Dubai...

Who gives a *bleep*?

And you might want to rule out a career as a lawyer as well.

serious competitors for Nakheel tower in the future. Who knows they'll start the gulf war again over tallest buildings.
That project is dead, no info, no pics, just nothing!

We have 3 projects in competition for 1km. Mubarak al-Kabir Tower and for the tallest tower in the world Nakheel vs Kingdom Tower!

For some reason (I really don't know why) I prefer facts and the truth in newspaper articles...

In an ideal world we all would, sadly there isn't a newspaper on the planet that only presents facts and news. They ALL have a healthy dose of opinion and speculation.

Haha, I will try. I'm currently based in the London office whereas I think the design work will be done from NYC. Still, I am sure I can somehow get access to the NYC office server

I think CAN BE appropriate, building 200 stories (al least) of building will attract more people than building 10 buildings with 20 stories for example. Its all about tourism for UAE now init?
