Ya but does Suzanne Fenton, Staff Reporter really have all the facts?
I have learned from these forums that the only "TRUE INFORMATION" needs to come directly from the source. Meed is also very reliable. But I rather hear the facts from Nakheel spokesman.

How do you know that Suzanne did not get the story from us?

It's not on hold, because they didn't start building the tower !!

We just speculate about ground work/preparing! The tower will also has a redesign 2-3 times !! Don't worry, it will grow up, but it takes time !

In 3 years the credit crunch is over and the next run to the boom is coming !

DUBAI.

Guys do you really think that they gonna be able to build this Tower?
I really doubt it. If they build it, not about 1000 m! No way.
The technic is not ready yet to build much higher than BD.

The first point is the elevators to bring the people upstairs. In fact the higher you build the more space you gonna need for the elevators.
Conventional wire/rope elevator systems have a limit. This Limit is 650 m.
About this distance the wire/rope would collapse because of their own weight. Therefore you need more elevators and more space either.
The industries are testing magnetic elevator systems similar to the technic of Transrapid but in vertical direction. A system like this could be the solution to make NHT possible. But I don't think that this system is safe enough yet to use it as vertical transportation system.

The second point is the wind load. If you want to build as high you have to make the construction very thin because of the wind load. The wind load gets stronger the higher you get. Therefore you have to make a construction very thin to avoid staggering of the building. Additionally you need huge dampers like in T1O1. A system like this needs a lot space so the section would be uninhabitable. Maybe for this point is a solution in sight for the future.
A computer controlled active damper system would be smaller and cheaper than the passive One of T1O1.

The third point is the weigh of the building/construction itself. It woul be way too heavy for the ground in a city like Dubai. Reinforced Concrete is not a light material. I guess Dubai hasn't massive Rocks as building ground has it?
Even in Shanghai the city sinks by few cm each year because of the weight of their Skyscrapers. In Dubai it will be even more than in Shanghai.
So the indutries need to develop new lightweight materials. Maybe a composite material similar to Carbon or something else.

If they gonna build it anyway I hope that the construction doesn't collapse after completition. This could happen and should be an argument to wait with its construction.

Oh, you think they just drew the shape on paper liked it and said let's start building it today ... seriously.

, indeed .

i don't see any problem with the elevators in the tower for example. latest technology says: no ropes..maglev elevators, double-decker elevators, and more than one elevator per shaft. not sure if they'll use it already at the nakheel tower but i think it's possible

Come on..... Do you think they are even thinking about constructing it when they are not 1000% sure that they are able to? (technologically seen, forget the economy for a second)
