Oct 24, 2008 - Dubai : foundation works for the tallest tower in the world

The Dubai Nakheel Tall Tower is part of the Nakheel Harbour and Tower project and involves the construction of a new town on a 270 hectare site in the centre of Dubai. At a height of more than 1 km, when completed the Nakheel Tall Tower, the project’s central structure, will be the tallest building in the world.
In early 2008, Solétanche Bachy constructed three test barrettes and then, from April to June 2008, installed a 130 m diameter diaphragm wall including the capping beam. Last August, we commenced the construction of 392 barrettes to form the foundations of the Tall Tower. Additionally, Solétanche Bachy will be responsible for the construction of the pumping system, earthworks, a draining foundation raft and a concrete blinding layer. Foundation works are due to be completed by January 2010.

Now please, don't fill this thread with useless posts like "wooohoooo", "Great Tower!!!!!", "(insert a million smileys here)", and so on.
Are those barrettes similar of BD barrettes with 1.5 m diameter and 50 m deep ? I think barrettes are more deeper but well, it's 200 more barrettes than BD, impressive.

The shape of Burj Dubai helps allot on having less piles and going less deep. Even the 516 meters tall (excluding spire/antenna) Pentominium tower has way more piles and going way more deep then Burj Dubai.

However that particular tower, as also NHT, have overall the same shape from bottom to top so they can't relay to aerodynamics to reduce the need for balancing the lateral (wind) forces, the piles and raft alone has to do the job.

I dont think it will get canceled. This is gonna be Dubai's new flagship tower along with the Burj Dubai. Even if its a massive waste of money Im Guessing Nakheel will shell out the cash for the bragging rights. Towers like the Burj Al Alam and the Pentominum might get cancelled as they arent going to represent Dubai like the other towers will. Plus, isnt Nakheel owned partly by the Dubai government or something? I think will help its chances too.

maybe, or it could be many other towers which fall into that category like Kingdom Tower.

But I'm very optimistic this tower will be finished as planned unlike freedom tower and without much economic crisis huddles in the way.

I think all those photos posted by Imre above are the Nakheel Harbour Tower site under construction (believe it or not)

Interesting... It is odd to get it built right next to warehouses and plants.

I was asking to myself the same question.
Anything that involves the NHT seems to be a little confused.

Don't get me wrong; they will try their best to do it, and they probably think they can. And maybe they can. But things are looking really bad. I lost a lot of confidence when I learned that the Trump Tower will now be the Trump International Concrete Slab.

That's true. I hope you are right. The best thing this tower has going for it is that it will take so long to build that by the time they need to fill it up the crisis should be over. I just don't see where they are going to get 100 billion in capital to build it.
