I believe itís the other way around. They are building these warehouses and plants next to the tower in order to provide it with materials and resources directly on site. After all it will require immense amounts of everything, makes sense placing these facilities closer to the tower. Both economical and logistical sense.

How many cranes are there on the site? I just want to know for trivial reasons.

There are no tower cranes on site, and will not be any till the piling and excavation are completed. Only the diggers/rigs and a few crawling cranes are there at the moment.

Not long time ago the highest building on the Earth has 500m and now they are going to build tower twice higher. Isn't it too soon? Just because we nearly finished Burj Dubai don't mean that there is no height limits now.
Anyway it will be fascinating to see this crazy tower rising :P

They could use the money for this to build a real city, with streets and squares and landmarks at a human scale where people will be able to get out of their cars and live and work without having to drive miles.

I understand the city wants to make a mark, but the best way it can get noticed is by building something environmentally friendly and SUSTAINABLE... I mean, 'enough air conditionign to cool...' what! how much energy is this tower goign to consume... and who the hell is going to occupy it... if its just goign to be floor upon floor.... someone pelase? tell me how this uildign will function and contribute to peoples lives unless it is in fact just an empty monument to oil and money.

well, i caught something where nakheel was saying they wanted to push through with this project because of the time it will take to construct. They are predicting that through market swings, it will be finished during an upswing (which they're timing is pretty accurate with the averages). They fully acknowledged the slump in the market but they are banking on the market in 10-12 yrs.

So it makes perfect since to delay the projects that will only take a few years to build and keep this one moving.

Yeah I figured there wouldn't be any Tower Cranes.

I'm just curious about how many cranes are there overall.

It's not important. But if anyone can count them that would be cool. I mean wouldn't it be a little fun fact being able to say you know how many cranes were used for the Nakheel tower and Harbor project? lol
