not less than 10 years until this project will finish!!! really long time!
I m 100% sure that during that time alot of other towers will be approved and U/C.
Its recession time, means happy time for super talls to raise!!

My dad read in a magazine that Dubai is very low on money and many projects will not get finished. When I mentioned this tower, he said "no way"

I hope it isn't true...

Which magazine? Some magazines are not good sources or honest.

Nakheel funding base secure but new projects axed
Reuters
Published: December 22, 2008, 23:36

Dubai: Government-owned Nakheel, developer of Dubai's palm-shaped islands, has adequate funds for its projects but has no plans to launch any other new projects as sales are slowing, its chief executive said on Monday.

Chris O'Donnell told reporters the firm did not see a need for further layoffs after it announced plans to reduce its workforce by 15 per cent last month.

Nakheel is one of a number of Dubai developers that have cut staff, scaled back and reviewed projects as the global financial crisis hits Dubai's once-booming real estate sector.

O'Donnell said he expected better market conditions in 2009.

"The banking system is starting to free up with the liquidity that has gone into the market and I think you'll find in 2009 we will see a lot more liquidity coming into the market," he said.

"So basically we are matching supply and demand and that is how we are managing our projects."

O'Donnell said Nakheel had not made any sales in the last couple of months and the firm's first sukuk, worth around $3.6 billion (Dh13.28 billion) would come up for renewal in November 2009. He told Reuters earlier this month Nakheel is not in discussions over the sale of the company and that a public listing for the firm was still an option, but there was no time frame.

Omniyat Properties said late last month it had cut 69 jobs, while Damac Holding, the largest developer, said it would cut 200 jobs.

Emaar Properties could make job cuts, chairman Mohammad Ali Al Abbar said.

Thanks Imre for those revealing photos--you are the man!

This seems to be very close to JAFZ, is this correct?

If you read sources some pages ago, Nakheel secure the project and it take 10 years to build.

Yes, its not only feasiable, its a reality. The question lies now on wether there are enough money and determination to finish the project. UAE have proven they have the will to make such projects reality, and since the construction spans so many years, well through any economic crisis, the finance won't pose a long term threat.

If only Burj Dubai would be allowed more years as number #1!

Again, if you haven't been already, it worths a click:

After reading these threads about Nakheel and Burj Dubai I guess I belong to the minority over here who thinks these towers are rather... aesthetically displeasing (sorry!).

Sure their height is impressive, but to me they look sort of over the top (not talking about the height). Maybe its just the difference between cultures, but I appreciate a more minimal design.

I checked out their site. I had never heard of them. They are from Australia and the practice was founded in 1869. They have over 1000 employees...I never heard of a design office with 1000 employees!

it's not unusual. for example, ws atkins, designers of many notable lanmarks in dubai and elsewhere employs over 18000 people. all big offices include many brances around the globe - heh, woods bagot has 15 branches. gensler has 30 and 3000 workers... skidmore, owings & merrill have 10 and ws atkins alone employs 650 architects among other people...

designing such landmarks is a big business...
