Dubai government to support business plan of Dubai World and Nakheel
The support will be allocated as $1.5 billion for Dubai World and $8 billion for Nakheel

Dubai: The Dubai Government announced Thursday that it will support Dubai World and Nakheel “with significant financial resources”, according to a statement received by Gulf News.
This will include a commitment to fund up to $9.5 billion over the business plan period for both companies, according to the statement. The support will be allocated as $1.5 billion for Dubai World and $8 billion for Nakheel.
The support will be funded by the $5.7 billion remaining from the loan which was previously made available from the Government of Abu Dhabi in addition to other “internal Dubai Government resources”, according to the statement.
The statement also said that “Dubai World and Nakheel will also present revised business plans, which take into account the current business environment and reflect the new direction being given to both companies.”
Dubai World has been in discussions with lenders – which ended yesterday evening - and will present a proposal to all its creditors for the restructuring of their loans.
In this proposal the Government is offering to recapitalise Dubai World through the acquisition of the Government’s $8.9 billion claim and a commitment to fund up to $1.5 billion in new funds, the statement said.
In a separate statement, developer Nakheel on Thursday announced a comprehensive recapitalisation plan with following key elements:
The Dubai Government will provide approximately $9 billion in financial support. It will provide $8 billion of new money directly to Nakheel and convert its existing $1.2 billion debt claim into equity.
All creditors are to receive 100 per cent repayment “on the agreed amount of their claims” over time, Nakheel said.
An initial $1.5 billion of the new funds will be made available to Nakheel to fund contractors to continue building nearterm development projects.
Nakheel said it will work with its creditors over the coming weeks to secure an agreement for the recapitalisation plan.
Following the announcement, Dubai stocks surged at 4.3 per cent in noon trading with the index standing at 1845.04.

38 billion was for the whole project. The tower itself surely wouldn't cost that much.

Once they make sufficient profits in the future, then it would be feasible. In the near future, it is impossible IMO.

This is a good news for Dubai World and Nakheel but I don't think that mean a restart of this project.

Nope, most likely it won't. Tower alone supose to cost 38 bilions $, so i dont think 9 bilion would affect the project in any way, it rahter will help Nakheel survive. But its good to see that Nakheel will stay, maybe when they strengthen a bit, they will get back to this project.

Btw Dubai ones again should thanks Abu Dhabi for help

It will not happen, they (Nakheel) have other fishes to fry with that money ... starting from the remaining work on Palm Jumeirah, and there are many many other projects for them to spend money on.

I'm sure he is sure that he would like to see this tower restart. That doesn't change the fact that it has been cancelled though, and that the bump of this dead thread was a total waste of time. I'm sure Imre could take some more pictures of the site, but he'd be wasting his time, a better option would be to repost the images above and change the date.

I heard that Imre moved out of Dubai. I haven't seen any photos from him on other towers in almost a month.

Edit: I take that back:

Still, I'm curious as to why he quit posting photos on this site.

With any luck this tower will never see the light of day .

Dubai's supertalls are legacy/ego projects , not financial investments . The economic crisis has forced a lot of people in Dubai to be a lot more realistic with their proposals . They can and will still dream big but now with a closer eye on the bottom line .
Anybody can scream until they're blue in the face that Nakheel Tower would have been a wise investment . The fact is that there's no possible way it would have been anything but a monumental money pit no matter how twisted the numbers were .
There's also the fact that it would have never looked remotely good in the Dubai skyline . There's no skyline anywhere in fact that it would have looked good in . Too big . Ten Burj Khalifas would look fantastic ... not this thing.
