with 500 000 m3 of concrete, how high can rise the concrete pumping ? I think they must resolve this to pump concrete over 601 m with correct flow to build a "kmtower".

It is an interesting structure, but not too spectacular. I see a bit too many structural elements connecting with each other, but not unifying together as a whole to make one grand building. It takes the shape of some sort of a tool rather, that is blown up with huge proportion.

It also reminds me of Star Wars' Lazer-Sword.

By the way, when is the approval?

Actually work has began on this one. Preparation for the construction of the core or rather cores.

There is some earthmoving, site preparation, etc going on. The foundation alone will apparantly take 3 years to build.

By the way am I the only person who think this tower is, well, average?
It's just big and that's it.
Now the Atrium City Towers are a different story.

Apparently when you build this height you have to sacrifice some of the appeal. These are uncharted waters where this tower is going. Still I personally am impressed with the boldness of the design rather its esthetics. Every structure above 600m simply looks astounding.

Well, how the tower looks is only a small part of the story. In terms of concept this isn't very good. Just look at Atrium City (or One Dubai now). There's a bit of space between the three towers allowing for amazing views, the sky gardens and bridges are great (as well as using suspension bridge engineering on a skyscraper which is excellent), and saves something like 60% of its energy.

I think it's not very nice too, but the shape couldn't be too much imaginative with that height..

Isn't this project classified as under construction?

'Foundation work has already begun, O'Donnell said'

Isn't this project classified as under construction?

P.S. The competition for the highest will get quite exciting this weekend, on 10th october or this friday when the new mile high tower gets revealed

Either way all of the current projects in Dubai are simply mind-blowing.

The one thing about the space inside is the spire is actually blocking out all the top light getting in so that'd make it very dark anyway.

Doesn't matter what they say about construction, until we have pictures I'll change nothing.
By the way for me to change the title to under construction they will have to have dug the hole and piling should be under way.

Lets just hope they don't run out of money during construction.

hehe, that's actually true.

@malec: I agree on the design not being particularly interesting, in that aspect it pales compared to the other Dubai projects. When we saw the foundation markings i already said i didn't want a round tower, this is precisely why. I liked the old design more, it had some office/business charm like e.g. the Sears Tower, whereas the new design looks like a tourist attraction akin to Pagcor Tower.

What you have to take into account is the volume of the tower, you could probably fit 4 Freedom Towers in that volume.

Anyway, it's straight out of Coruscant.

In fact, Dubai should be renamed to Coruscant.

I really like this tower and hope it gets built, but I don't think there will be many others like it.

At least not until the flying car gets invented, and you can park on the 200th floor. Then the sky really would be the limit, instead of how much time people are willing to spend in elevators. Coruscant here we come.
