Yes Triman, I know this.

However, I was emphasising about the markings to be made in the NH. Also, was telling that it is Tropic of Cancer that passes thru' Northern part of India and not Tropic of Capricon. Purinjitha? Any how appreciate your good idea to mark the road and to make it a tourist spot. At Nagpur, there is a 'Zero Mile' point, which is supposed to be the Centre of India. This place attracts the attention of many. Cheers Jals

Medical college
I think news about the medical college be posted in this thread...construction of the super speciality block is in full swing...it seems the opening to this building is from the ulloor side...also its not clear whether the building will be having a connection with the main hospital building...The external structure of the new op block is also complete and health minister said one more floor willbe added to accomodate the doctors once the residency system is introduced ....Its good that these strucures are coming.... ease the congestion... but they are doing nothing to improve the basic amenities of the present building ..
patients still suffer...

Asia's largest youth art festival begins in Kerala
The 49th annual Kerala Schools Arts Festival, tipped as Asia's largest youth art fete, has opened in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. The seven day-festival organised by the state education department attracts about 8000 children selected from high schools, higher secondary schools and vocational schools of 14 districts across the state to compete in 216 events held simultaneously in 16 different venues in the capital.
Separate festivals for Sanskrit and Arabic arts too are held along with the main event. The main venue is a huge five-storey pandal set up in the public maidan (ground) at East Fort in the city. Competitions in music, light and classical, different forms of classical dance are considered the most prestigious events. The major competitions will go on for hours continuing until wee hours. The capital city is to be in the grip of the festival fever for the next seven days. Children, teachers and volunteers are accommodated in 17 schools. All the venues and accommodation centres have been sponsored by the various commercial establishments like hotels and hospitals of the city. A medical team from each sponsoring hospital will visit the venue for free check ups and assistance to children. About 13000 persons including the competitors, teachers and officials besides the audience, parents etc are to attend the festival. The festival is kicked off after a glittering procession followed by the inaugural ceremony attended by the chief minister and the opposition leader. The winners are awarded grades from A to C and the individual champions in boys and girls categories are selected from among those who wins highest number of grades. Those who come in the first to third places in each event are also given cash prizes ranging from Rs 1000. Those who win grades at the festival will be given grace marks ranging from 30 to 18 for the annual school examinations. The district which comes up with the largest number of grades is awarded the gold cup. More than the grade, money and the grace marks, the annual school arts festival has traditionally been highly regarded in the state as the most prestigious arts event. It has produced many who later became big stars in different arts including cinema. The legendary Malayalam playback singers K.J. Yesudas and P Jayachandran were the finds of the first school arts festival held in 1957. Many later day stars of Malayalam screen like Manju Warrier, Navya Nair also were winners at these festivals. Top movie directors and industry talent- scouts have been regulars at the festival to spot fresh faces. Hence many talented aspirants see the festival as the most appropriate plat form to get noticed. The huge food stall set up in a sports stadium for the festival is its one major highlight. Set up in a mammoth pandal at the stadium with a capacity to accommodate 18000 persons. Famed Kerala model sadya (feast) with about 20 dishes is prepared every day for lunch by the specially selected chefs. Separate transport services are run by the state road transport corporation and the government has also exempted the festival venues from daily load-shedding. A mega media event, the festival is telecast live for all seven days by all the television channels from all the 16 festival venues. www |
