SAARC Educational Summit in August

Quote:
City to host meet on education

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SAARC Teachers Federation (STF) will hold a conference on ‘Quality education in the wake of global economic crisis’ in the city on August 27 and 28. The Federation comprising about three million teachers from SAARC countries, excluding Bhutan and the Maldives (not members of the federation), was constituted in 2003 and is recognised by the SAARC summit.

Addressing a press conference in the city on Thursday, S. Eswaran, general secretary of the Federation, said one of the primary responsibilities of the organisation was to ensure quality education and strengthen teachers’ organisations. Headquartered in New Delhi, the organisation has presence in all the States across the country.

The STF is also affiliated to the Educational International (EI), a world-wide organisation of teachers with membership of nearly 30 million. Some of the stated objectives of the STF included addressing issues relating to child labour, enrolment, AIDS and curriculum development.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor will inaugurate the conference. Minister for Education M.A. Baby will deliver a special address on the occasion. The conference will be preceded by a two-day workshop on the theme of ‘Economic crisis’ for participants within the country.

Great.

But instead of having it on August 27th & 28th, they might had waited for few more days till September 5th, so as to have the event on the Teachers' Day. Didn't they think that way?

BTW, Ajay thinking about ...... S.... Federation of SAARC ???? .
Oh no, that shall be SFS and Sudheesh won't spare you.

IGNOU to set up FM stations in Thiruvananthapuram

Asha P NairFirst Published : 01 Aug 2009 11:01:16 AM ISTLast Updated :

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: How about learning your lessons listening to the radio? The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is all set to make the age-old radio an educational tool by starting FM stations at its campuses in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.

Named ‘Gyan Vani’, the FM radio is purely to air educational programmes including live radio counselling. While IGNOU will have an agreement signed with All-India Radio for its transmission in Thiruvananthapuram, it will have its own facilities installed at the Kochi campus.

Though a final decision on the total hours of transmission is yet to be taken, it is expected to be on air for at least six hours. Apart from live interactions with teachers for clearing doubts, campus programmes, and information capsules, IGNOU has plans to tie up with the local educational institutions too. In this way, a more elaborate and comprehensive package of educational programmes can be anticipated with the FM radio available within 80km radius, Sukumar said.
