I have just finished watching pretty interesting cab view from M400 line section Siculeni - Lunca Bradului. Over 2 h film published by user CrissCiuc is fragmented into 6 parts, all in quite good quality and apart from part 2 all remaining with original loco sound. Film can be watched here:
Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Al38RBi0aI
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZohK5vRTsTo
Part 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY1MCB_io0A
Part 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYhqNwkIHZI
Part 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy7eCAFE0KY
Part 6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iOKQB551JI

This user has also interesting film from line M501 from Miercurea Ciuc to Goioasa Hm. Film features sound and is in HD but due to filthy front windshield the view is obstructed although line is really picturesque:

If I read this press release of CFR correctly, it seems Orsova - Anina will not anymore be operated by CFR, instead the railwayline can be rented for 4 years (2015-2018 ). http://forum.metrouusor.com/viewtopi...=120&start=859

The railway has been put up for auction by a private investor, indeed. But that doesn't necesarilly mean that the line will be bought. And until that happens, CFR is obligated to maintain service on the line, the "minimum social package", as it's called, meaning at least 2 return trips per day, in the morning and afternoon.

AFAIK, but I'm not sure, the line was auctioned before, but noone was interested. It has numerous problems for running trains: the trip lasts 2 and 1/2 hours, trains are immensely slow, you can't use standard carriages as they won't fit through the tunnels. CFR uses some small antiquated carriages for this line. However, they have never been able to sell this line as a tourist line, like it should be, since it's the first ever railroad built in present day Romania and passes through a gorgeous landscape. I've been on it, believe me . So, I feel it would be best for the line to be eventually sold to a private investor, that will surely exploit it's beauty, and also ensure more trains for the town of Anina, which at the moment is pretty cut off from the rest of the network; you have to get off at Oravita, take a private train to Berzovia, where you have access to CFR trains from Resita to Timisoara

Transylvanian ETCS Level 2 contract awarded
26 Nov 2014

ROMANIA: Infrastructure manager CFR-SA has awarded a consortium of Alstom, Alcatel Lucent Romania and Pas 97 Impex a 498m leu contract to equip the 170 km Simeria – Coşlariu – Sighișoara line with ETCS Level 2 and GSM-R. This forms part of a 40-month modernisation project which is intended to increase speeds on the route from 120 km/h to 160 km/h.

Consortium leader Alstom values its share of the contract at €100m, including the provision of its Atlas 200 ETCS technology and the supply of a Coradia Polyvalent electro-diesel multiple-unit which will be used for testing.

‘Passengers will not only appreciate the increased speed and the enhanced comfort on the upgraded section, but also the design and the capabilities of the test train, showing what could be the solution for future passenger transportation needs in the country’, explained Gabriel Stanciu, Managing Director of Alstom Transport in Romania.

More news about Softronic from last year:
SOURCE: railcolor.net

InnoTrans featuring: Softronic Trans Montana

Romanian manufacturer of rolling stock Softronic came to Berlin with a big red machine. It is locomotive no.17 from their Trans Montana production line. This is a asynchronous electric locomotive with six axles, 6 MW rated power and 435 kN traction effort at start-up. Next to the Dragon from Newag, the only Co'Co'-platform standard available in Europe.

The machine presented in Berlin looks quite different from the previous 16 units. Softronic 91 53 0480 017-9 is the first to feature new crash absorption elements meeting the European TSI guidelines. Being mounted behind the buffers of the locomotive, Softronic had to lengthen the Trans Montana with a 45 cm. The cabin design consequently changed.

No. 91 53 0480 017-9 is a dual frequency locomotive, capable of running under both 15 and 25 kV AC catenary. The 15kV capability was recently added to the platform, the first machines were 25kV-only locomotives.

The new Trans Montana has a single axle drive train. Every motor can be regulated independently. If needed, the machine could return home with only one of its six traction motors. Interesting is to know Softronic is also considering adding a small diesel engine to move the locomotive in areas without catenary, however this should not be seen as a full fledged 'last mile' feature to bring freight trains to their end points, according to Softronic.

Most remarkable was the spacious machine room of the locomotive. There are two isles (left and right) connecting both driver cabs (that have therefore two machine room doors) and a traversing halfway connecting both paths.

During the fair Softronic signed a contract with a new customer: CER Hungary. The freight operator will get one locomotive. Next to MMV, it is the second customer from outside Romania for Softronic. Other machines are operated by DB Schenker Rail Romania and CFR Calatori. Also Softronic's in-house operator Softrans is using these machines.

It is unclear until now if the CER machine will have the new fortified front design already. Softronic produces its locomotives blindly on a steady pace, without having a signed customer contract yet for every machine. This ensures a steady delivery by subcontractors and a short delivery time. The downside is the big risk of not finding a customer for every product. However, Softronic does not have this problem. Its six-axle machines are very welcome for heavy freight duties.

Softronic 480 014 coming to Austria

With this item we will record the latest news about Softronic coming to Austria. The Romanian company wants to perform trials with dual frequency locomotive 91 53 0480 014-6 in this country. We start with the news that the all green locomotive was seen yesterday passing through Hungary in the direction of Hegyeshalom (Austrian border).

Softronic signs memorandum with L.A.C. Holding for assembling locomotives / Construction CER locomotive completed

CER Hungary Zrt, freight operator in the corresponding country, is part of L.A.C. Holding. During InnoTrans CER announced the procurement of a Trans Montana locomotive from Softronic. Now Softronic and L.A.C. Holding also signed a memorandum of understanding about the production of Softronic locomotives in Hungary. It is planned to start assembly by L.A.C. by the end of 2015.
Meanwhile, also more is known now about the CER Trans Montana locomotive. The construction of the machine is finished (it is the 20th Trans Montana locomotive) and the locomotive has the new front design, as first presented during InnoTrans 2014 with Trans Montana no.17. It's livery will be blue and orange, as shown in the title picture.

Is there somewhere an official document which has written down the topspeed of the CFR network between Bucharest - Campina - Brasov section?

Recently I took the train from Sofia to Budapest, which uses the new Danube-bridge Vidin-Calafat.

The line from Calafat(Golenti) to Craiova has not been upgraded - watch this video to get an impression of track condition on this "Transeuropean corridor":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBSms4xanps

The trip Sofia-Budapest by this train takes 21 hours. By car it takes 9 hrs, so hardly anybode uses the train.
We were less than 10 passengers on the train...

There were also no signs of international freight trains using the new Danube-bridge.

Hello,

I wonder what happened to passenger wagons (corail) which where bought from CFL by Electroputere VFU / Remar Paşcani. I could only find a message dating back from summer 2015: http://www.economica.net/gruia-stoic...lor_85209.html

Thanks, Theijs

Was there on May 3. New tracks still not accessible, our train was received on the old ones, no platform, people had to comme on/off the train in the
ballast, and then cross the 8 new tracks in the ballast too between the train
and the station building. It looked quite weird to see all those old people
struggling...
