Johannesburg is a strange city. And yes, it is intimidating. I guess that is what I enjoy... Johannesburg is complex, frequently misunderstood, often overlooked. It pulses with energy, but there is also the seething undertone of tension, even anger (you find this in third world cities across the world).

The greatest reward in Johannesburg is looking at things a bit differently. Challenging yourself. There are amazing tree lined avenues. I live in a mediumrise area, and I wake up with birdsong every morning. Being on the third floor, I am just below the canopy of trees.

but you see the unemployed. you realize something about this city is different. Some love it. Others don't. To each his own. As for me, I love Johannesburg. She is a bit like a faded old prostitute. Doesn't really look her best, but there are so many secrets to discover! She can definately show you a good time - but you have to be safe...

There is only one language that can describe a kill-joy of enormous magnitude this Wannabe-Kiwi-who-makes-Kiwis-look-awful: "Hoekom moet jy altyd soos 'n doos optree?"

Kiwis are good people, they should kick you off their island and make you live in Nauru on a phosphate heap. Take some Prozac or other anti-anxiety-happy-pill before you comment on anything South African again. Your posts are always the same sh^t, different smell.

Do you ever have anything good to say, or is it just when you arrive on an SA related forum, or is your life absorbed by negativity?

You remind me of one of those people who question the use of doing anything "because the world is going to end in a billion years anyway." Please, do us all the favour of staying in Auckland (AKA far, far away from here) whilst those of us who actually have the guts to walk down the street (SHOCK, HORROR) will contribute towards a meaningful existence on this earth.

Does it make a difference that I haven't been outside Africa? If so tell me how. If you live in sh*t, you willl notice it, irrispective of whether you have been to the best of the countries or not.

Yet another traitor unmasked! Hoorah for the caped fruit!

Anyhoo, this thread is about Joburg. It is not about Kiwi's little interpretation of Conrad's "Heart of Darkness." Of course we all know Kiwi would have been happy to live under an oppressive corrupt apartheid state - as long as they allowed his little part of the themepark to be particularly sugar coated and lovely.

Some people could not handle reality, and they miss the good old days of cotton candy and clowns in your garden, while the secret police strangle your neighbours.

I think we should give it a break now - this poor thread has not seen so many comments ever since its inception. I will leave it to you guys to bring us more fab photos of Johannesburg from the safety of your car. Just remember there is a lot the world has not seen so try and venture out further than the few square kilometers you have covered so far and lets really see what Jhb has to offer.

Classy and witty. What a superb combination! Oh, what a loss for us! To think we allowed apartheid to end! How many more quality individuals could we have kept in the country! We have threads covering Melville, Parkhurst, Greenside, Norwood, Killarney, Hillbrow, Braamfontein, the CBD, Sandton, Fourways, Sunninghill, Morningside, Randburg, Soweto, Alex... Come on Kiwi, you know the real answer. You just can't handle what SA has to offer.

Exactly my point - for someone who is coming across as trying to save SA and walking the talk you sure are just coming off as an old HNP supporter - venture out and show us the real rainbow nation.
