so what, we paid 100 km of motorways not with EU money this year and we will be giving 700 min € to the EU this year. So your point is not valid.

but 14 km in two years is apsolutely ntohing, even small towns in Bulgaria and Romania are paying to build longer stretches of road than that.

Wrong!! The section between Marinha Grande and Louriçal (first part of A17) opened in june 2007. You can confirm it here (portuguese newspaper) : http://jn.sapo.pt/2007/06/04/pais/a1...tralidade.html

The diference between Bulgaria and BiH has a name: FEDER... Don't forgive pre-entrance funds... EU gave a lot of money to Bulgaria before the entrance.

Back on topic...

I believe Spain and France have built most motorways recently, but the rate is currently probably highest in Poland, Ireland, Greece and Croatia.

Relative or absolute?

Because in Spain, hundreds of kilometers of motorways were build the last years. Poland has the biggest plans, with over 7000 kilometer of motorways and expressways.

Possibly Ireland, cos we're building all the roads all once that we should have had over the past 10 years.

Portugal has built circa 2500 km of highways in 20 years. We have more 500 km planned for the period 2008-2012.

Yeah Portugal's been quite impressive. In the early 1990's, there were barely 2 motorways, now every region is connected.

Only Bragança region is really lacking currently but Brangança will be connected to Vila Real and Porto in 2012. Beja will be connected to the A2 and Sines (port) in 2011/2012.

In the last 5-6 years, Croatia built some 600km of motorways.
Now we have about 1100km.
The plan is to increse it to some 1500km by 2012.

Ofcourse, this doesn't include numerous expressways already built or planed (a couple hundred kilometrers).

It's a huge development of the network! When will be connected Dubrovnik to Split?

Isn't Bragança connected to the Spanish A62 to Zamora?
