#PROJECT: BORIS BECKER RESORT & TENNIS ACEDEMY ( Al Marjan Island )

Dh3bn Boris Becker Resort launched

The development includes holiday homes, world-class luxury resort and spa facilities, a five star hotel, and a tennis academy. (SUPPLIED)

Staff Writer on Thursday, October 09, 2008

Dubai-based ACI Real Estate, an affiliate of Alternative Capital Invest of Germany, and tennis legend Boris Becker yesterday unveiled a luxury mega-resort, the Boris Becker Beach Resort & Tennis Academy, partly owned by the former world champ himself.

Valued at Dh3 billion, the recreational and residential master-development includes premier holiday homes, world-class luxury resort and spa facilities, a five star hotel, and a world-class Tennis Academy.

The resort will be located in Ras Al Khaimah's Al Marjan Island.

Aimed primarily at global investors in the top-end holiday-homes segment, the Boris Becker Beach Resort and Tennis Academy will offer a "buy-to-use & lease" option prevalent across major investor holiday-home destinations across the globe.

Powered in part by solar energy, the Boris Becker Beach Resort and Tennis Academy is developed by Middle East Vision and brought to market by ACI Real Estate, the name behind some of the region's most prestigious iconic developments.

Becker, who holds a 50 per cent partnership in the Academy, and part ownership in the rest of the Resort, said the mega-development holds significant meaning to him, both as an entrepreneur and former tennis world number one.

"With end-to-end luxury facilities, from residences to spa and a five-star hotel – there is simply no integrated resort of this calibre anywhere else. As a former global competitor, it is also personally rewarding to bring UAE a world-class tennis training facility, and play a role in grooming young local talent. It has all the makings of a top-seed in the global luxury holiday home sector," Becker said.

Becker who will play a significant role in the design of the Tennis Academy, will also co-manage the completed facility, assisted by long-time friend, and fellow German Davis-Cup team partner, Eric Jelen.

Becker will also offer personal training sessions to a select few, and hand-pick coaches from across the globe to ensure the "Becker way" is well-observed, and young talent carefully groomed. The world-class structure will feature six tennis courts with rebound-ace surfaces.

Referring to the "buy-to-use & lease" ownership option the property offers, Sanjay Chimnani, joint managing director, ACI Real Estate said: "There is a definite increase in the number of global buyers looking to the region for top-end luxury investments. This ownership option puts it within ready reach, and evens out the playing field so we may effectively compete with global holiday home destinations."

I read that it is "slated to be completed by 2010" - you've got to laugh I think not.....

Seems an interesting choice of location when Sports City is just down the road. I guess combining it with an upscale waterfront resort is a hedging move to ensure it remains an attractive destination for reasons other than tennis. All those pushy parents with their child prodigies will need somewhere to relax while the coaches attend to the serious business of turning little Johnny into the next Roger Federer! If it raises values and the prestige of Al Marjan Island in general it has to be a good thing.

Who designed this?? None of the apartments have any balcony! What's the point of locating it on the beachfront of an amazing island, in a country that has sunshine everyday, when you can't even sit back and enjoy life bit. Think the architect needs to stop worrying about turtles and get back to the basics.

Poor Boris Becker, think he's lumped with a dud developer here.

Zero construction started, no fencing, no mobilization, no nothing. It has now been 6 months since the spectacular ACI fraud launch. 100% unrealistic that this project will be even close to completion 2010. I am in the process of taking legal action towards both ACI and Middle East Vision.

Request for CONTACTS

Hi,

we are the team which has caused the media recognition of ACI's actual shareholder trouble in Germany.

You can find all our three press releases (in German ) on our website.

First of all, I want to thank this forum section and its protagonists for the very detailed information available here.
Thanks especially to all guys spending days over days with posting actual pictures.
All used pictures in our releases were edited with "Copyright Skyscrapercity.com", hope this promotes this woderful site as well.

Meanwhile, due to the media coverage in Germany and Austria (so far approx. 50 different clippings!),
we have been contacted by one of the most serious TV Magazines from Germany who are planning to come this week to Dubai.

In preparation of this report, we are now looking for direct contact to local ACI / Lohmann / Middle East Vison / Achim Bullinger "victims", means:
  • Unit Buyers, claiming refunding of their payments, but rejected by ACI out of unserious reasons (we konw there must be a lot)
  • Cases where payments have not been deposited on ACI Escrow account (against the Law No. 8)
  • Suppliers, running behind their moneys, e.g. there is a German supplier complaining that ACI asked for 24 months stretched payment plan instead of 1 amount
  • More detailed information about Robin Lohman and Achim Bullinger - place of residence
It would be great to receive some serious replies.
Please facts only, no gossip or twitters. Thanks.

Met with ACI on Thursday, no chance of getting any money back from them. However it would be great to get in touch with other investors and try to contact the developer MEV/ Achim Bullinger. Please contact me at 050-284 60 39, Martin.
