Wuhan, China, Oct. 2008 - many, many pics!

Hi everyone,

I just came back from Wuhan (Hubei Prov.), where I shot many pictures again. Although Wuhan is not exactly a beauty according to common standards, it is still a huge and bustling city of ~10 million people and currently undergoing modernization at breathtaking speed. Therefore I hope you will find the pics somehow interesting. Here they come:

Glad you guys like the pics ... Here are some more...

@qwerty: Yeah, it's indeed strange how a city bigger than London or Paris can be that much unknown in the western hemisphere. If you ever have the chance to travel around in China, you should pay Wuhan a visit also. I think you won`t regret it.

Here are some more... Hope anybody out there is still interested...

The next few pics show Taizi Restaurant at Jianshe Dadao which is a decent place to eat with surprisingly low prices... You really should try it if you happen to come to Wuhan one day...

nice interior...

and nice waitresses...

:psycho:

Looking from the main entrance of Taizi Restaurant you will find Wuhan's No.1 Skyscraper "Minsheng Bank Tower" (336m) right in front of you...

and International Trade Center (212m) to the right... (excuse the bad quality)

walking along Hankow`s "Bund" - Yanjiang Dadao... Nice colonial architecture there...

Demolition and Construction everywhere...

this new type of traffic lights starts showing up here and there..

The next series is showing the area of "Wuhan Tiandi", a redevelopment project by Shui On Land (you might know their similar project "Shanghai Xin Tiandi"), where they again try to achieve a harmonious mixture of (renovated) old buildings and newly built structures. The project is not finished yet, but what I could see there so far has been very appealing already. Of course, the restaurants and bars there are kind of expensive for local standards, but they're not totally out of scale given the special atmosphere and the perfectly clean environment. Nuff said, here come the pics...

Nice pictures! Didn't know anything about this city, so it's always good to see some pictures.

Interesting shots! Is the city foggy or smoggy?

Thanks for ur kind comments.

@Svartmetall:

Well, actually both. But the smog problem is not as severe as you might think: What you can see in the pics is mostly fog, especially in those aerial-like pics I shot from Yellow Crane Tower. It was just my bad luck to go there on a pretty foggy day.

Though extremely hot during summer, Wuhan generally has a very humid climate and is known to be foggy and cloudy for ages. Considering the smog problem: I guess there is no city of ~10 million people on earth that is completely free from those worries. However, Wuhan is yet in the beginning of modernization and therefore air quality is surely somehow worse there than, let's say, in London.
