Parana Delta-Buenos Aires Province

The Paraná River Delta with 17,500 square kilometers and a length of 320 kilometers is the third largest in the world, behind the famous Nile River deltas in Africa and the Amazon in northern South America.

The most outstanding flora consists Alamos Ceibos, wicker, reeds and willows, of which wood is extracted. Though decreasing, highlighting the fruit: lemons, oranges, grapefruit, pears and apples.

Navigating the Delta, the visitor is struck by the diversity, large yachts and cruise ships crossing with small rowing boats, boats that take passengers Collective different sectors of the Delta and boats that collect Timber production in the area.

The Paraná Delta is in a geographical sense, a transition between Mesopotamia and pampas. The islands of the Parana Delta owe their existence to the large amount of sediment that carries water from the Paraná.

Islands of the Parana Delta-Buenos Aires Province

There are a several lines of motorboats for public service with itineraries across these rivers that transport local villagers and tourists.

In the islands, the houses are built on piles, which raise the constructions and stand out between the leafy vegetation. Many are classic houses of ends of the 19th century.

There is a great variety of trees like ceibos, pines, poplars, Alamos Ceibos, laurel, willow, wickers, eucalyptuses, diverse fruit-trees, ferns and lilies of the field, together with magnificent "camalotes" that weave entangled floating islands; also flowers like azaleas and hydrangeas, among others.

San Patricio (St. Patrick) Parish in Mercedes City-Buenos Aires Province

In the month of July of 1885 disembarks in Buenos Aires Guillermo Whitmee, attorney general of the congregation of the Palotinos. Then for advice of Archbishop from Buenos Aires he moves to Mercedes where has their Headquarters the western Irish Chaplaincy in charge of the Pbro. Samuel O'Reilly.

With due authorization carries out a tour for the whole west of the county of Buenos Aires to make a collection and to assist the spiritual necessities of the numerous Irish families seated in Mercedes and all the neighboring parties.

In February of 1887 San Patricio's first chapel and San Patricio's School opens up that continues until our days.

The great organ of the parish is considered the grandest and most perfect ever built for a South American Church.

Iguazu waterfalls, Misiones province, Argentina and Brazil (25°42’ S, 54°26’ W).

On the border between Argentina and Brazil, the 230-foot (70-m) Iguazu falls form a semicircle 1.67 miles (2,700 m) across, which attracts 1.5 million tourists every year. On the Argentine side, the falls are part of the Iguazu National Park, which was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 1984. The park is home to 44 percent of the country’s animal species and is one of the best-preserved remnants of South America’s Atlantic forest. This unique subtropical forest ecosystem runs along Brazil’s ocean fringe and stretches slightly inland in Paraguay and Argentina. It is regarded as one of the five highest-priority areas for the preservation of the world’s biodiversity, a “hot spot” where 20,000 types of plant live—8,000 of them endemic—as well as 1,668 species of land vertebrates, of which more than a third are found nowhere else. This wealth of biodiversity has been granted a stay of execution, for deforestation and urban development have already destroyed 90 percent of the original habitat.
