London: Olympic Athletes Parade

Yesterday London held a parade for all the team GB Athletes who tookpart in the Beijing Olympic.

And what a great event it was, the atmosphere was wonderful, the athletes were happy to chat and sign things - the police relaxed and happy to let you get right up close - the crowd was cheering, clapping and waving flags (i don't think i've ever seen so many Union Jacks in person before).

Some people may think the British Public are not supportive of our games in 2012, but having seen the number of people who turned out on a cold weekday to have a good time, i can safely say that the Olympic Spirit is very much alive and kicking, i heard so many people saying positive things about 2012.

It's a shame it was held on a Thursday, but there was still a massive crowd considering, and the weather was nice enough.

Enjoy the pics - This is just a small taste of what 2012 will be like

1. Young Tom Daly and chums

2.

3. I must confess i don't know who this guy is, but he posed for a shot and let me hold one of his gold medals (whilst he still had it around his neck of course ) - shame the pic didn't come out too good

5.

6. The Golden girl herself - Rebecca Adlington

7. Eleanor Simmonds - 2 gold medals in the paralympics - the crowd loved her

Good grief, looks like there was quite an atmosphere there.

Have to say, I do get a bit jittery when I see such overt displays of nationalism. Never been one for the flag waving myself.

I was all in good fun - everyone was waving them, American Tourists (standing next to me), Japanese students etc etc

And it certainly makes a difference from the usual grumblings about how crap Britain is

Well that is definitely true!

Just a shame we can never find a happy medium! Between the jingoism of the Last Night of the Proms and the tabloid Daily Mail "country = going down toilet" we really are rather a bipolar lot!

Very nice pictures, you managed to get some great shots.
I still think that the London Olympics is a big waste of money.
