AIE to KL and SIN

From Sep13th 2010 Airindia express is making the nightime flight to Singapore direct from Tiruchi. It will start from Chennai and gop to Singapore via Trichy.
I kinda expected this before the arrival of tigerairways.
There is a mum about the other flight which I think will continue via Chennai.
As many of us might know already ,come Sep 14th one can fly to KL directly from Trichy.

Air India Express to introduce Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur service

Same news in Hindu
Quote:
TIRUCHI: Low cost carrier Air India Express has announced introduction of a new service on the Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchi sector and direct services to Singapore and Dubai from Tiruchi, effective September 13.

The airline will position a Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Tiruchi and upgrade its station here to introduce the new services. With the introduction of new services, the airline's total number of flights to foreign destinations from Tiruchi will go up to 32 from 25 a week. The Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur service will be operated daily, with the flight (IX 622) departing from here at 1.10 a.m. In the return direction, the flight (IX 621) will arrive here at 10.40 a.m.

Services to Singapore and Dubai will be operated as direct flights under the new schedule as the airline has decided to de-link them from Chennai, which is currently the station of origin. The daily Tiruchi-Singapore flights (IX 682) will depart at 1.10 a.m. In the return direction, the flight (IX 681) will arrive here at 10.40 a.m.

Tiruchi-Dubai service

The Tiruchi-Dubai flights (currently a daily service) will be operated six days a week, except Tuesdays.

The flights (IX 611) will depart from here at 1.50 p.m. and in the return direction (flight IX 612) will arrive here at 11.20 p.m.

The airline will also operate twice-a-week service on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Abu Dhabi sector to a revised schedule.

The flights (IX 613) will depart from Chennai at 4.35 p.m., arrive here at 5.35 p.m. and leave for Abu Dhabi at 6.25 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays. In the return direction, the flights (IX 614) will arrive here from Abu Dhabi at 3.45 a.m. and leave for Chennai at 4.40 a.m. on Fridays and Sundays

The airline will continue its daily service to Chennai and the flights IX 621 will depart from here at 11.40 a.m.

The introduction of the flights to Kuala Lumpur would add a new daily flight on the Chennai-Tiruchi sector too. The flights will leave Chennai at 11.05 p.m. and arrive here at 12.10 a.m.

New domestic service

This apart, a new domestic service on the Tiruchi-Thiruvananthapuram-Tiruchi sector will be operated on Tuesdays, as aircrafts will have to be sent Thiruvananthapuram for weekly maintenance. The flights will leave for Thiruvananthapuram at 1.20 p.m. and arrive here at 11.55 p.m.

The positioning of the aircraft and delinking of services from Chennai will enable the airline to carry the aircraft's full complement of 181-186 passengers a flight. It will also enable the airline to carry more cargo.

The airline will be able to carry up to 1.50 to 2 tonnes of cargo, especially perishables, a flight, T.H.Radhakrishnan, Station Manager, National Aviation Company of India Limited, Tiruchi, told The Hindu. The airline fares will also be competitive, Mr.Radhakrishnan said and added that the one-way fare to Kuala Lumpur will be Rs.7,620 (including taxes).

The positioning of an aircraft here is also seen as a strategic move by the airline as it plans services to more routes, including on the Tiruchi-Colombo-Tiruchi sector. Tiruchi is the only station in Tamil Nadu, other than Chennai, where the airline has positioned an aircraft, sources said.

New Karaikal Airport

A new airport will be coming up at Karaikal.
The Hindu reports: http://hindu.com/2010/09/04/stories/...0450300100.htm
I think this will soon become an international airport because the runway will be at least 12000 ft. Many international tourists visit Pondicherry , Nagore and Vailankanni. Also it will benefit adjoining districts which are between Central Tamilnadu and the coast.
This new airport will ease the conjestion at Tiruchi and Chennai.
Also when the Madurai airport becomes international it will ease a lot of conjestion at Chennai and Tiruchi.

There is no congestion at trichy airport. I think there won't be much scheduled services itself to karaikal as of now. Maybe private chartered flights may operate.

Oman Air plans to increase the number of destinations in India, as well as increase the number of seats on popular routes. H E Maqbool bin Ali bin Sultan, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Anand Sharma, his Indian counterpart, held discussions to this effect during trade talks on Sunday.

Centering on plans to increase the number of seats on Oman Air's Indian routes by 10,000, as well as open up new routes to Mangalore, Ahmedabad, Tiruchirappalli and Kolkata, the proposals will be discussed by Sharma and the Indian minister for civil aviation before the memorandum of understanding is finalised.

The matter is already in the hands of the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation, with further discussions expected to take place, but no dates have yet been set for the new flights, Sharma told a press conference on Sunday.

"This matter is engaging the attention of the Indian civil aviation ministry," he said, adding that there is a need to increase the number of flights and seats between the two nations as the current routes are already very popular.

“There is ever growing air traffic between the two countries, with 76 flights from Oman to India per week. Upon my return, I will discuss the matter with India's minister of civil aviation.”

A large number of Gujaratis has also been asking for a direct flight to Ahmedabad for a long time. “We have been requesting a direct flight for the last ten years, as more than 50,000 Gujaratis live in Oman,” said a member of Muscat Gujarati Samaj, who is spearheading the campaign for a direct air link between the two cities.

Tiruchi airport expansion after availability of land

The next phase of expansion of the Tiruchi airport would be taken up after the required land was made available by the State government, said D. Devaraj, Regional Executive Director (Southern Region), Airports Authority of India (AAI).

“We have prepared the master plans for the future expansion of Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tuticorin and Salem airports, taking into account the requirements for the next 20 years. The expansion programme at the airports would be taken up once the land was made available, depending on the air traffic at the respective places,” Mr. Devaraj told reporters here on Tuesday.

Chess, carom tournaments

He was speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural of the All India AAI chess and carom tournament.

Mr. Devaraj asserted that the State's response was positive towards the development programmes and expressed confidence that the land issues would be sorted out soon.

He indicated that the expansion of the runway and construction of a technical complex, with a modern Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, were planned as part of the expansion plans of the Tiruchi airport.

Answering a query on the reported manpower shortage at the ATC at Tiruchi, he said that AAI had recruited personnel recently and they were undergoing training.

The problem would be addressed to a large extent within the next three to four months once the new batch of employees completed their training and given postings.

The old terminal building at the Tiruchi airport has already been made ready for use as a cargo complex. Closed circuit cameras for surveillance in the airport would be installed within the next two months.

The airport, Mr.Devaraj, said was already achieved operating profit and discounted the possibility of it being privatised, even partially.

AI Express service on Tiruchi-Mumbai sector

The Air India Express has decided to withdraw its weekly service to Thiruvananthapuram from Tiruchi and instead operate it to Mumbai with effect from October 5.

The Boeing aircraft which has been positioned in Tiruchi, consequent to the introduction of direct services to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, was being operated on the Tiruchi-Thiruvananthapuram sector on Tuesdays. The aircraft was being sent to Thiruvananthapuram for regular maintenance. However, due to “engineering reasons” the aircraft would now to be sent to Mumbai for the maintenance, airline sources told The Hindu.

Consequently, the aircraft would be operated on the Tiruchi-Mumbai-Tiruchi sector on Tuesdays. The flight will depart from Tiruchi at 11.30 a.m. and reach Mumbai at 1.45 p.m. In the return direction, the flight will leave Mumbai at 7.30 p.m. and arrive at Tiruchi at 9.45 p.m.

Sources indicated the Air India is likely to operate services to Muscat from Tiruchi soon. The frequency of the service is yet to be finalised.
