Trichy airport gets four sniffer dogs

TRICHY: Four of the six specially trained sniffer dogs for security operations at the Trichy international airport have arrived. They include three Labradors (one male and two females) and a cocker spaniel.

The airport authority had allotted a budget of Rs 25,000 each for the purchase of the dogs, and they were bought from Hyderabad. The dogs will be under the control of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that provides the overall security to the airport.

On the development front, the plan for the extension of the existing terminal building by around 80 meters on both sides has officially been received, said an airport source. The work on the Rs 150-crore project would start soon, and when completed it would augment the passenger handling capacity at the airport. Considering the developmental work that is currently going on at the airport, and taking into account the likely growth of the export volumes through the airport, the airport would soon be upgraded, said a source.

Meanwhile, the incumbent airport director S Dharmaraj has been promoted to the post of deputy airport director (DAD) at the Kolkata airport. Dhararaj told TOI that he would be officially at Trichy until October 14, and he will join at his new post the following day.

It was during Dharmaraj's tenure the new international cargo terminal was officially commissioned in November 2011. Recently, the Union ministry of finance had notified the airport for international courier cargo movement. But the much-needed expansion of the runaway at the airport, whichs would have enabled the jumbo landing and takeoff, thereby enabling a spurt in export volumes to the western countries directly, could not take wings despite his best efforts, said a source

i would request Mr. NMIN to immediately stop ANTI-TRZ campaign and discuss only constructive issues to avoid unpleasant discussions.

Good wishes to Mr.Dharmaraj, one of the best directors of Trichy.

Hope the next person in-line too works fine for still more development of the airport.

Tiger airways and AirAsia flights were parked in the aero bridges and two AIE flights one arrived from dubai and another arrived from singapore in the parking bay. It is nice to see that 4 aircrafts were parked in the apron. Tiger airways was almost full and also i saw that there are good patronge for Airasia also. I saw some moderate crowd for the AIE flight bound for kulalumpur. I will load the photos very soon.

thks for the wonderful photo updates. guess denying other present&foreign operators from increasing&granting additional flight services for now could be attributed to lack of airport terminal capacity? well, wish would someone post the proposed new extended terminal building plans, including no. of additional aerobridges?

Even we don't have additional space for placing the scanners also. I saw only two scanners were there one used for Air Asia and the other for Tiger,Airindia express. Check in counters also we require more if the terminal is extended by 80mtrs then we can get some more space. If three flights are departing at the same time (within the gap of 30mts) then it is very difficult to manage.
