You have FINALLY managed to come out with a REALLY good thread of downtown San Antonio. It looks so interesting and active. Many, many other people have posted San Antonio threads but this is the first one that actually makes me want to go visit.

Thank you for the panos, the street-level shots, and for not taking all these pics from your car...

I hate the parking garages but love the architecture. San Antonio is a little too touristy but with the right amount of infill it could be a great city. Too bad there is no light rail system. I love the weathered deco buildings. Hopefully more full time residents move downtown. Great old warehouses. What are the demographics of the city?

I remember reading somewhere that only 3,000 people live in the immediate downtown area which is very sad. We are a city of 1.3 million.

Locals are slowly moving downtown with a few condo projects, but mostly tourism runs the area.

Locals rarely go downtown unless to see the symphony or go to some kind of convention. That's why the city is expanding the Riverwalk so that locals will get more involved downtown without getting crowded out by tourists.

thanks for the photos. What an interesting city. I like it. The Riverwalk is such a brilliant idea. What did it look like before it was developed? Im gathering your city is in a fairly dry climate, similar to mine

Before the Riverwalk, there was nothing there before. Just dry land.
The Riverwalk was a canal that drained water from the San Antonio river through downtown.

Yes, we have a dry climate here. In fact, we haven't had a good rain in around 4 months.
