It is a matter of costs, biligual signs are alot more expensive and they make little sens as of now. The day when Moscow becomes a mayor tourist destination (the city has the potential) biligual signs will pop up all over.

As for railway passenger service, yes, it is being improved but they have to pay more attention to the rolling stock, too, it is completely out of date, and many attempts to make something contemporary haven't come to smth substantial yet. But Aeroexpress trains are much better, really.

Couldn't agree more with you! Dilapidated infrastructure is a systemic problem

Fortunately, infrastructure modernization is high priority on the agenda

Petersburg WAS first one. Many routed were closed, tracks demolished and now you can't even go from the north of city to the south by tram - lines don't have transfers on the center.

This is such a huge plan. But Moscow suburban and city rail & stocks are in bad condition.
Metro is still most comfortable.

^ Thanks a lot for that. Exactly what I was looking for. It seems however, that the big plans have come to a halt. 2010 has not seen the openings of the elektrichka underground sections that where expected in 2008. Is there any update to the schedule or is this a result of the shift to a faster Metro expansion?

That thing has changed though, new signs (also with a new font that's not in italic) contain a smaller version of the name in latin letters. Absolutely no problem, IMHO it's all a matter of information design.

The map's a little outdated. It doesn't have the SVO air-rail link. Other than that, it's on point.

Moskva-Butyrskaya is a really funny way of saying Savyolovskiy Vokzal!

Woonsocket54: Thanks, this is much clearer; I guess I want deatial to where everything is in this station by reference of a map of the station or in referenc to the top view of the map you gave... Things I am looking for are like halls, concession stands etc like above... What would be the quickest way of doing that?
