You don't need highrises to have density. Look at the lower buildings (6 to 8 floors) they also give the city density.

When you will have any (just any) of our Alstom TGV and when you will have just a km of high speed line (300km/h+).... then we will talk......

Since early 80's we have the TGV !!!!!

For example, today you can travel from Paris to Marseille (800km) in 3 hours.......

BTW your picture is not really recent and was taken on a local/regional line (TER)....... (but I agree that train looks like your soviet-trains on your national lines ) !!!!

PS: As I said, we are very sensitive about our trains !!!!

Since late 80's we have freedom, and free market development. We wont have TGV, the tender is between siemens velaro, bombardier zefiro, alstom new pendolino and ansaldo breda V250, We dont really need HST, 200-250 is enough, though distances between major cities are usually about 200-400km.

didn't we talk about trains already three times in this thread? Okay if you want so. Nothing can be compered to the great german engeneering. Here you see the ICE on the brand new high speed track between Hamburg and Berlin

in the background you see the skyline of Hamburg.

Yes totally exaggerated pseudo-HDR effect. Looks sometimes interesting but spoils almost every nightshot IMO! It is a pity to spoil such a good photo...

EDIT: I'd just understand what you meant (my mistake)...BUT: I don't think so... the train on the Elvenking's picture doesn't look like a regional one !!!!!!

The new/actual French TER (Train-Express-Regional) :
