Singapore is an incredibly beautiful city though and I for one really like the Zuid-as district in Amsterdam, which is supposed to become the city's financial hub if it is not already.
The only thing that place still needs is some life. Add a few shops and bars and leisure facilities and we'll have ourselves a second downtown area. Of course its still under construction so we'll have to be patient.

Certainly in my opinion a few incredibly tall buildings would add to the impressiveness and since the area is actually on the edge of the city it would not at all undo the beauty of the center of the city which should remain unspoilt, without highrises.

My point is, supertall clusters would work well for European cities as long as they "respect" the ancient heritage that most key cities on this continent have.
When mixing with old city centers great care has to be taken and more than once does it not work out well. Therefore I like the clustering that Amsterdam is applying.

I know an architect in Madrid who looks very scared into the future since he said the building boom in Madrid just broke. Huge projects are only to be expected in residential areas, but commercial skyscrapers he said, would be the complete exception in future,... I hope that tha project gets through anyway,...

Frankfurt is... impressive? No. Frankfurt isn't dense.

@didacxavier: then as well you could argue that paris isnt impressive since it isnt as high as frankfurt. it all depends on your point of view.
i even like the fact of frankfurts skyline being spread out a bit. it isnt one big mass of buildings which makes the tall towers stick out of the city more distinctly- and for my taste- thus more impressive.

In my opinion Frankfurt has the best skyline. Followed by Paris and London.

I always felt that Canary Wharf and La Defense are like small cities within a city. In both cases you have to take the train outside the city centre. The skyscrapers don´t seem to be connected with the rest of the city.

This is why I think Brussels, Frankfurt and The City skyline in London feel more real and urban and therefore more impressive.

Not very bright to use an aerial view for a skyline! And even more if it only shows the low rise area!
