I will contact them, they definitely need a facelift for this bus on the picture if they want to develop correctly... VDL makes much nicer buses. Some are designed by a another Belgian Designer (not me) Axel Enthoven Apparently, not the Ambassador you show on picture...

Apparently, contract is only for the not so beautiful Ambassador (on top).

VDL is a group of different manufacturers form the Netherlands, they also manufacture the more famous BOVA buses, known for their bubble face.

Lets see, maybe it is a first step

For city streets this year - nearly 7 million lats

Jelgava has managed to attract significant funding from the European Structural Funds, which this year will help to fully reconstruct 7 streets. Municipality has already announced a tender work procurement for Lielā and Dobele street phase reconstruction from Dambja till Atmodas street. This year is scheduled to end this project 1st stage, investing 1,94 million lats in Dobeles street section from Satiksmes till Atmodas street. In 2010, continuing reconstruction of the road till Dambja street will invest a further 3,07 million lats.

Already announced procurement works for tender stage reconstruction of six roads around the Zemgales olympic center (ZOC) and Jelgavas 4th middle school, who this year will attract 2,96 million lats - Kronvalda, Imantas, Lāčplēša, Strazdu and Akmeņu street reconstruction stage. Real works will start in June.

I don't know exactly, maybe Jelgavas autobusu parks (JAP) would want one , but I doubt that since Jelgava spent millions on new Mercedes buses. The factory will produce 250 buses in a year and mostly these new buses will be exported to Moscow and other foreign countries and we will have a priority because it will be the only "Ambassador" bus factory in this region.

well, because to buy one such bus in Latvia, where they are produced, will cost many times less than f.e. to buy one Solaris in Poland! btw, they even look better and their quality will be excellent!!

doesnt seem like a very nice citybus? Seems more suitable for medium distance (centre-satellitesuburb) operations.

That bus will be for regional transportation. In fact, they in Jelgava will produce two types of buses, regional (shown above) and city buses, like this one:

Some pics taken today.

Reconstructed old Jelgavas cinema building into a modern business center.

Update on "Raiņanams" building. A new apartment house in the city center.
